I have a completely legit, however totally controversial question to ask on this whole "AzN PrYdE" thingy.....
<release of liability>
I am in no way racially biased, racist, or anything of the sort, in any way, shape, or form. Just a guy trying to figure out what the difference is between people of different national descent.
</release of liability>
ok now that thats outta the way...my question is.....Why is it ok for an asian guy to say "Asian Pride", or any variation thereof....or a African American guy to say "Black Pride", or a Philipino man to say "Philipino Pride"......etc...etc.....(here comes the controversial part).........but the second a Caucasian guy says "White Pride"......the lawsuits start flying, and everyone and their mother starts to get pissed off and offended........whats the difference?
And yes, I am fully aware that the KKK uses that phrase to the point of it being a bad thing......but even if someone that has no affiliation of any kind with that horrible, horrible organization.....just some joe blow, that was hanging out somewhere, were to say that, reguardless of the aforementioned scenario....that poor guy would be beaten down by a mob....and probably killed......
I mean its not like other cultures on the planet are perfect....every culture has a dark side....EVERY ONE
so again....my question is....whats the difference? why the double standard?
-Ted
P.S. I have a feeling that this is going to open up a can of worms and next time I check this thread it will have like 50 pages......Please keep in mind that THE ONLY REASON I AM ASKING THIS is because I am just curious to see how different people view this subject. We are all adults here and I hope that nobody will view me any differently, or have any negative feelings towards me after reading this post. <yes, I am really concerned about that, given the nature of this subject
> EVERYONE I have met, or talked to through I-club, I consider a FRIEND, reguardless of nationality, or view on this subject.

Ted, you're a brave man asking a perfectly legitimate question. Perhaps the shortest and most direct way is that those responsible for some of the greatest atrocities in history involving race have been Caucasians (the Holocaust, Apartheid, the Crusades, etc.). Frequently, when seeking justification for their actions, these perpatrators have often claimed that their actions were for the good of their race, religion, or culture. Furthermore, the stigma of cultural and literal colonial imperialism is still very strong today, and it is important to recall that many Western nations responsible for these international crimes operated in a condescending manner stating that they were "civilizing" supposedly backward cultures (of the colored people that they dominated). This superiority complex has trickled down today into racist groups such as the KKK or the Neo-**** skinheads. My claim here is not a racist attack against all white people, it's just stating historical facts in a scholarly open fashion.
Interestingly enough, it would have been likely that worries about white supremacy would not even exist had it not been the Caucasian domination of the world throughout the past 500 or so years. A bit of evidence lies in the older generations of Chinese and Koreans who resent all things Japanese due to the Japanese atrocities during WWII. This could be considered similar to the stigma of anything associated with "white pride" here in the States; at least, the source of the antagonism would be similar.
As a final point, this sort of Caucasian brutality and dominance could be at least a partial reason of the unrest in the Middle East. If you review the history of the Middle East, it has been toyed and tampered with, if not outright attacked, by Western states since the Middle Ages. From the Crusades to colonialism to the establishment of puppet sheikdoms to the coups to the wars and more, the West has made the Middle East miserable for centuries.
Anyway, I hope my scholarly discourse has not offended anyone. I've tried to be as objective as possible, and would like to hear any comments in regards to this issue that Ted has brought up. I hope we can keep this discussion civil and I'd like to hear what others' perspectives are. Cheers!

Oh, and one more point... if some Joe Blow on the street was claiming white pride, probably the most offensive part of it would not be that he is racist, but that he is being ignorant. In doing so, he is being insensitive to others, especially those of descent of people who have been subjagated to Europeans. Furthermore, he'd be just digging up old bones and starting pointless arguments with those who would disagree (and indeed that may be many).
Yeah, You've Probably Never Heard Of Me.

heh, this came up once in my sociology class.
Well the short answer is, whites are the majority, and if the situation were reversed, it would be completely acceptable for a white minority to claim "white pride". Its just an ideology that gives racial or ethnic minorities a sense of shared experience and unity. Its the same way we have black history month, why not white history month? Because every month is white history month! You see?

Back then... alpha numeric pagers was pretty expensive,
so some genius came up with this method for relaying
messages on a normal pager.
Example :
HOW ARE YOU would be translated to 40177 8123 4017.
How 4-0-177
are 8-12-3
you 4-0-17

Choku Dori, your explanation was very informative and pretty much exactly the kind of answer I was digging for. Thank you for taking the time to write all that down, and clarifying that up for me....You seem to have your "head on straight" and did a good job explaining that to me....I know its a very controversial subject...but inquiring minds wanna know....and I felt that was a perfectly legit question, and was looking for a legit answer....which I feel I have found with your help. Again, thank you for clarifying that up for me, and (to everyone that read those posts) thanks for being the adults that I know we are....and remembering that we ARE all friends here. I was always told that the ONLY stupid question is the one that you DONT ask......
Also, Choku Dori.....on a lighter note.....next time you are around the SJ area....you should lemme know....I wanna buy you a beer bro (or the beverage of your choice)

Many Asians are somewhat into numerology. For example, the number 4 and derivations of it (14, 24) tend to symbolize death and are avoided in Japanese and Chinese cultures. 8 and 9 are numbers of prosperity in Chinese numerology, and 5 is a good number in Japanese culture. That's why so many Japanese players in the MLB have a number with 5 on their jerseys.
