track days and autox require a slightly different skill set. if you're tracking your daily driver you do not want to drive on the track like you're autocrossing. autox is ***** to the wall for 45 seconds, hugging cones, ignoring the proper "racing line" and finding the proper "autocross line" (not always the same). i like to call it controlled chaos.
autox will make you a better track driver... i don't think the opposite is necessarily true. i used to track the car, but i like the perceived safety of autocross on my daily driver.
you want to give tracking a try go look at the track day thread... HOD runs a great program and thunderhill gives LOTS of run off room in case you find yourself running an unintentional gravel rally event.

so you think you want to race cars?
Get a big pile of money for starters, some people will tell you you don't need it right away, but by the time you get a helmet, second set of tires, membership fees and licensing paid for, you'll wish you had the big pile of money earlier.
After that, if you get hooked you can expect to burn through another big pile of money every month or two.
How much fun you have and how many trophies you collect will generally be a direct function of how big that pile of money you are shoveling out the window is...

I'm the opposite, I don't have any interest in autox.
If any of you new guys are looking to do a HPDE day let me know, I want to do one and it'll be fun to have a few i-clubbers go for the first time.

im planing on going to the autox school at marina on the 21st, could someone give me an idea of which class i would go in (if they event classify for autox school). i have a 2002 wrx with TBE, AP, coilovers, 17x9 with 255 street tires, sway bars, end links, pitch stop, and full interior.
I assume with the TBE you're running catless, or have increased your boost from stock. Unfortunately those things coupled with your 255 tires puts you into E street prepared.
