Condolences to the passenger's family.
I can't speak for esousa22, but my guess would be that it was a small part of a conversation in which they were all trying to bring an ounce of lightheartedness amidst the very weighty & grave situation the driver & passengers are struggling with.
We cope in strange ways. I use humor a ton in various stressful circumstances. I'm almost certain that their playful exchange was not out of disrespect or anything like that.
Without realizing it, we can go into shock. We go kinda numb for a period, and we don't act ourselves. Worlds get turned upside-down both literally & figuratively in crashes.
Again, condolences to all concerned. And a speedy recovery to those who survived this tragic but valuable lesson.

Went to visit the passenger today with my buddy, pretty small world. Everyone in San Jose seems to know each other. When we went he was still on life support but that's only for a couple more days according to a family member we spoke to.

Uhh no. I've been in a nasty wreck and the last thing I wanted to be thinking about is the wreck. I was simply trying to get a smile out of him to get his mind off the death of our friend because he's got enough alone time in the hospital to be thinking about that. When someone is in his situation I see it best that you dont bring up the accident other than "how are you feeling?" Try to crack some jokes, get a smile to get something other than negativity in his mind. His dad is taking care of all the lawsuit stuff. IMO, if I were in his position, I would want friends to bring up casual conversations to make my day, not ask about whats going on because 9/10 people would already be doing that

no way? I was told by his cousin that they were gonna pull the plug yesterday. I've known the passengers cousin and brother since 7th grade and the passenger for 3 or 4 years now.. well knew him..

I'd keep saying prayers and hoping for the best.
I have an uncle. You can find him online. My uncle Mike. He was pronounced dead. Talking no brain waves and what not. They pulled the plug and the dude woke up. He recovered and went on with his life. Crazy stuff happens.
But I also have/had a friend that woke up when he wasn't suppose to. He lived a couple more years in a wheel chair angry at the world and fighting seizures. A massive seizure finally killed him. Street racing accident back in the day.
Either way. I hope the best for everyone. This is one of those things that just really sucks for everyone involved. Especially if he wasn't doing anything illegal.
Don't mention it. Just continue to be there in support.
Yes, continue to hope for the best.
I only offered my condolences because the earlier post that the front passenger's family requested to take him off life support the other day. I'm sure things are quite dire. But as Ray said, "Crazy (read:Miraculous) stuff happens."
Good to find out that the guy's family has held off a couple more days. Again, my thoughts are with all the young people involved in the accident and their family & friends.

Not dead yet.
