Insurance on mods I am sure most know but for the noobs ;)

Just because I work for an insurance company as an I.T. dude I have learned this factiod. Otherwise I would probably have no clue. You have to call your insurance agent and add your mods to your policy. Like get the total value + installation and give him/her that number. I just added $4500 worth of upgrades to my policy in case of an accident and it cost me $7 a month. You got to weigh that if two cups of coffe @ starbucks is really worth losing all the value of your mods in case of a total or theft. Not an advertisement in any way as I wouldn't tell ya where I work anyways

Now go doo it, like right now.

I mean it.

It can be a pain in the *** to get them covered, esp. if stolen, EVEN IF YOU HAVE COVERAGE (I do) Make sure you have RECEIPTS, and if you cant get those, get PICTURES of your car with a current newspaper and the mods in the frame.

Dont ask me how I know this ;(

i always wonder about this. As i only have some receipt for the items and some of them are used from another person. So a picture with a date is fine?

I still had to fight even with the picture, but it helped. I eventually got what i needed.

Oh, and only mods physically INSTALLED in the car count. Windshield mounted GPS's, etc aren't considered covered ;( Found that out too.

Were you paying for the extra coverage for those mods?

With my policy I say how much and what before it gets stolen and there is no need for reciepts. I was insuring for the extra value so I get that extra money. I doubled checked too with the Personal Lines Manager.

No. If you have documentation of the mods, pics of the on the car, AND you actually pay for the extra coverage, then you should be fine.

Or at least every time you install a new mod to stay current...

I had all of the above, and still had to fight quite hard. It was no cakewalk.

How much of the mods did you insure? Probably none and they still gave you money for the mods? If so you were lucky you got anything as most companies would say sol. This would not have happened if you would have stated 7k in mods and paid the extra premium for them.

You just need the last part, no reciepts or pics required.

You are telling the wrong story here man. If you would have listed ALL this stuff UP FRONT, there would have been 0 questions asked.
