Install extended studs

Hey guys! So long story short, I cross threaded a lug nut and trashed my stud on my rear wheel and want to replace all of them with extended studs. I was wondering if anyone in the bay has done this and could help me out. I got a good idea of how it's done but could always use some help. I would gladly come to you if someone would want to help. Thanks guys!

That sucks. Good luck with the replacement as it's a royal PITA. You have to disconnect all of the parking brake stuff and putting it back together can be a btich. I can't recall all of the details because I did it on my '93 Legacy turbo wagon in ~2004 (in my apartment parking garage ).

autozone, oreaily sells replacement studs for like 2 bucks. its easy to replace that one.

Jack car up, take wheel off, take caliper off, take rotor off, take off abs sensor, allen tool unbolt the abs sensor ring, grab a hammer and beat the crossed stud out, make sure its on netural, rotate the hub until the stud falls out. Put the new one in turn it to where the teeth catches and gun the stud back in.

hmm.. well its like that.. maybe a little more work for someone that hasn't don it before.. if anything just take it to the shop. it shouldn't cost you that much just to replace one stud.

Super simple man. I just replaced 2 in about an half hour. They are $1.99 each at autozone and had to say that I had an 06 WRX to get the studs. They are the same on the 2008+.

Mine were super bad due to an air gun mistake.

Thanks Mike! I had a air gun mistake as well but done by Americas tire. I have a buddy local that had put on extended studs in the past on his car. He said he would help me out. I am going to do extended studs in the rear just for the heck of it since he has done it and said it isn't to bad.

The fronts are relatively easy. The rears...not so much.

Hah thats EQ .im not going to bash on any shop, it is ridiculous how much they can charge for something simple, but thats what you are paying for...quality and a peace of mind.

Travis, I did quote you a bit high because sometimes they can take a while, especially for extended studs. In the end we charge the time it takes but I don't like to under quote. Would you like me to take you off the schedule for this?

Thanks

FWIW I had a local dealership install ARP extended studs on all 4 corners for just over $400. I did not want to deal with the huge hassle with the rears.

For 5x100 cars you can buy the TIC hub-a-dub which can be ordered with arp studs already installed in a new hub with new bearing

I am sorry to vent Ed, but I thought we had discussed just replacing the broken stud and not doing all extended studs. Maybe we had a communication break down some where? If your quote is for the extended stud replacement then that is fine but for just to replace one stud then I thought it was to high. I would still like to remain on the books for now if that is ok? Wasn't trying to bash on you guys or anything...

No problem Travis. I was just quoting on the high side in case we ran into any issues. You know I end up charging you whatever time it actually takes to do the job.

I'll keep you on the schedule, but please let me know if you manage to get it done before then.

Thanks
