Deal of the CENTURY

Geek Squad Will Plug In Your PS3 For Only $130
By Phil Villarreal, 9:37 AM on Mon Sep 21 2009, 38,520 views

A Kotaku tipster notified the video game blog that Best Buy's Geek Squad is offering what can only be described as the deal of the century. Something even better than that awe-inspiring CD ripping service.

*For the low, low price of $129.99, the Geek Squad will come to your home... Do I even need to go on? After all, a visit from the honorable techno-soldiers alone is worth at least that much money. But there's even more. With the purchase of a PlayStation 3, the wizards will:

*Set up and install your PS3: This presumably involves taking it out of the box, plugging it into the wall — and here's where things get crazy — into your TV as well.

*Install the latest firmware updates: Gritty work indeed. To do this, the Geek Squadster will power on your controller, flick the "left" button on the directional pad several times, then click "x" to tell your PS3 to download the firmware.

*Set up & configure local user accounts with parental controls: More pushing of the "left" button, followed by more pressing of "x" under the parental controls prompt. This could take as long as 15 seconds. And time is money!

*Set up & configure online account: Typing in your name and e-mail when prompted. This is an especially valuable service to those who are illiterate and/or dyslexic.

So, so amazing. Kotaku's headline for its story on the matter was "This should be illegal. Seriously." Hell yeah, it should. This offer is so great, it's darn near criminal. Hurry up and take Best Buy up on this offer before they run out of Geeks!

thanks to McKay for pointing this out to me

Oh yeah? Well, I'll do two for the price of one! That's right, buy two PS3s in the same household and I'll plug them both in for the low price of $129.99!

Can't blame them for offering a service that people WILL pay for.. no matter how easy it may be for you and the rest of the interwebz.

I used to work at geek squad and boy.. there are sooo many who can't do the simplest of tasks.

I had a lady come in to tell me her computer is very sluggish and crashes all the time. Her hard drive was on its way out and I found out later that shes been pressing the power button the entire time she had the computer instead of Start > Shutdown. Apparently nobody ever told her there was a shutdown button.

very well put, but just because one is tech savy and know how to perform the service, doesn't mean EVERYONE is able to do it.
People pay for stupid crap all the time, next time you pay anymore than 2 bucks for a T-shirt you are part of the stupid crowd, since no matter what BRAND is labeled on it, it probably cost no more than 2 bucks for a sweatshop to churn it out.
my 2 cents

Those component cables can be confusing! "So which plug does this red cable go into, the red slot or the white one..." 3 video and 2 audio input cables, why couldn't they just be consolidated into one plug... oh what, HDMI does that already? AND it's better quality? Genious!

^HDMI is not always better than component, especially component video with fiber audio.

When I was doing computer consulting I could see charging as much as BB to install a PS3 AND do all the updates. Time is money and PS3 updates take a lot of time. That's one of the major reasons why mine has been relegated to Blu Ray player while the majority of my gaming is on the 360.
