I've heard a lot of bad things regarding the sacto area. Please as constantly trying to steal cars up there. I'm affraid to leave my car while i'm there.

I'd get another garage spot or an electrified car alarm.

When i moved from davis to sac.. my insurance jumped over $1000 to $3100 a year. i went and did some research. turns out... Sac is like #6 in stolen cars NATIONWIDE. Stockton, which isnt far, is #3. thats why my insurance jumped. needless to say, i re-registered my insurance under my parents address in the bay. so car related crime isnt uncommon there.

The problem with sac is.. even if u live in a nice area.. the ghetto isnt far. The place we lived at was brand new.. gated.. everything.. but i heard of numerous HOUSE breakins as well as car breakins. I moved out of sac 2 months ago.. commute 1.5 hours from the bay to work. and dont regret it AT ALL.

also, the people who did this just MIGHT have been out in the storm. In Davis, whenever there is a windy storm, almost EVERY car gets broken into. People from sac drive there to break into cars because the high winds set off all the car alarms. so they can bust into cars with the alarms going off and nobody will care cause they are inside their warm homes/apartments thinking its the wind setting off the alarms. My roommate asked the 1 Davis window repairman about it after his car got broken into.. he replied saying that during a storm 1 week, he had 80 customers who had their cars broken into and needed repair.

Sacramento has always been in the top 10 for car theft. When i was younger in the south sacto area it was considered the honda accord theft capital in the U.S. Im not exactly sure why this is though!? Not saying the russians have something to do with it but there happens to be a VERY LARGE % of russians in the south sacto parkway/meadowview area... just a little info FYI. And there just so happens to be A LOT of russian connections at the recyclers in industrial park, rancho cordova.

It has gotten a tad better in the last few years but it's still a major problem. If you own a honda in the Sacto area you're asking for it.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau* (NICB) the Top 10 auto theft cities are:

1. Miami, Florida

2. Jersey City, New Jersey

3. *Fresno, California

4. Memphis, Tennessee

5. New York, New York

6. Tucson, Arizona

7. Phoenix / Mesa, Arizona

8. Albuquerque, New Mexico

9. Sacramento, California

10. New Orleans, Louisiana

Eric

Bottom line is to play smart.

EDIT: Good point issued above^^^... the ghetto areas are never far away from where you live. You could live in the nice part of elk grove and walk to parkway/s. sacto. You can be in antelope and be 2 minutes from Northhighlands. be in the arden area and be victim to oak park and south sacto. Live in Rancho and northeast sacto and be victim to the ghettos in the sionara citrus heights area. live in the natomas area and be victim to the west sacto areas etc etc etc.

My mother lives in a nice part of elk grove where the mortgages are around 500k+ a year (which gets you a good 2700+ sq ft house in sacto btw). When i got out of the army and lived with her for a couple months to get back on my feet i saw numerous cars "creppin" with the lights off scouting the area in the early morning.

sorry, man. I've been lucky about vandalism so far, but unlucky when it comes to inconsiderate ******* people. My cars exposure is limited though - my work parking lot is 24/7 surveiled and my garage is wired to our home alarm AND I lock my car inside it. hehe..nobody is messing with my car

Sorry to hear that you've been hit.

I lived in Sac for almost 3 years before I decided to move to Davis. When I lived in Sac (by Arden Fair Mall), I lived in apartment communities that were gate, and that didn't even keep the vandals out. I had my car (a 91 Accord at the time) broken into 3 times. The first time the took the stock stereo. Second time, they took whatever change I had in the ashtray and glove box. Third time, they didn't take anything because by then I didn't leave anything in the car. Not like I left much in my car to begin with, just some cds or cassettes.

After 3 yrs of that -ish, I finally moved to Davis. And haven't had any trouble there. I even lived in the ghetto community and still no trouble. I guess it all depends on where you live and what you drive.

that's understandable - Arden is a ****ty area. I'm not saying that to be mean - I used to live over there too, but what a dump that area is.
