So my girlfriend is buying me an exhaust as a christmas present and she's willing to buy me whatever as long as I like it. I chose the greddy sp2 and found a good deal too. The guy I'm buying it from is offering me a helix catted downpipe as well to go along with the sp2. Honestly, I would like to pick up both, but if I do, the downpipe will be sitting in my garage for a year or so until I can save up for a tune. I can also sell the dp but I feel bad for selling the dp. Or I can simply not buy the dp, but he's selling me the dp with the sp2 for such a good deal, I don't want to pass it up. Opinions?

Get both and let it sit in the garage until you are ready to install it. It is a catted dp so you may be able to get away with installing both with no problems.

If I ran with the catted downpipe without getting a tune, wouldn't that ruin my engine? My friends told me I need a tune if I install dp.
I'm still pretty noob at this so go easy on bashin on me.

Kevin just put the catback on and not worry about the dp till later unless you can afford a tune. I can help you out. Get both and wait. If you need the extra money then sell the dp.

Hahah alright, I'll take both because I really don't want to pass up a good offer. Thanks for opinions guys, appreciate it.
Hey hide I'll bring my car to your place whenever I get it, I'm taking it to ericks to get it polished first. Thanks ahead of time.

while its always best to get tuned for any mods, its usually more critical when it comes to the intake side of mods than exhaust. Yeah I ran a turboback for about a year without a tune as well on my 04 STI with no probs, and this was back in 2004 so it was catless, they only prob was with the wastegate/boost creep thing but it might be even less of a prob with a catted dp since its going to keep a bit more back pressure than a catless.

Gotta love using the port and polish term eh Hide?! It's great stuff! That's why he hasn't been out lately, he's been getting the port and polish done while the g/f is in town.
