they are the same company but the DIRECT one is cheaper because you don't have to go through the store (meaning they don't have to pay as many employees)

I did ask that. It is the same price to mount them if you buy direct from the store as if you bought them from Discount Tire Direct. Buy anywhere else and they charge the higher price.

The DTD website says this sale ends on 10/20/07.

Just talked with America's Tire Co. in Walnut Creek and they will match prices from DTD. You just have to pay for tax + mounting ($13/tire). Not sure if there is a dismounting fee

Kyle, I just talked to DiscountTireDirect.com on the phone and they said they aren't going to be carrying the hankook's anymore

The email contact was rather odd too. I got an automated response saying they'd reply back before noon the next day, and the reply back today said to call them for the best service....why the automated response couldn't have told me that I dont know

That's $284 for 225/45/17 ZR ASX's? I get the same price and then they add in the Valve stems at $3 each. They also automatically added in the Certificates for free replacement that I had to manually remove. Total was $296 for me. Is it the same cost to get valve stems at the Discount Tire brick and mortar stores?

free shipping + $100 off 4 tire purchases or $200 off tire/wheel combo

so out the door for Kumho Ecsta ASX $284

tirerack = $348 + shipping = $385

edit: deal ends on the 20th

Just ordered and paid $284. Decided not to get the valve stems since they seem to be the same price on Ebay for 10 or 20 as it is for 4 of them from Discounttiredirect.com.

Also called Mountain View America's Tire and asked for a quote for these Kumho's and a pricematch. Was told to not get the Kumho's and instead tried to be persuaded to Goodyear F1 All Seasons. I told him I'd pass even though he said that these Kumho's are not good. However the Goodyear's would have cost me 2x what I paid for my Kumho's. Also, he said that he can only offer the $100 off on what he has in stock and he didn't have the Kumho's in stock.

Anyone received their tires and confirmed which Bay area America's Tire location that will dismount/mount for $13? Also, does that price include the valve stem? I'm mainly concerned about receiving the lifetime balance since balancing a wheel itself costs $13 at some places.

I'm about to pull the trigger myself for a set of RT615s from DTD.

I was told the same thing at the America's Tire on Brokaw by Fry's. Could only give me $100 off on what was in stock. Wouldn't pricematch DTD if they had to order. On top of that he said it would be something like $25/tire to mount/balance if I brought them in - even if I had purchased them from DTD.

Their price for RT615s was $144. Online at DTD it's $127. $576 for a set ordered in store vs $408 for a set online. I really wanted to give them my business but even if I have to pay $20+ a piece to get them mounted and balanced elsewhere, that's a no brainer.

I paid $93 at the America's tires on Steven's creek this morning to have my tires mounted, balanced, new stems, and old tires disposed.

Is that the right price? I talked to the guys there and they said they got yelled at for giving that price for internet purchased tires.

seems like the price they should be offering anyways because mounting + balancing = $20 each tire and 3 dollars each for valve stems.

80+12 = $92

I'm in need of having my tires mount this week and thought Discount Tire did it for $13 but 3 stores (Mtn. View, Santa Clara, Redwood City) that I've called said that even though I bought it from their website, the $13 rate only applies to tires bought in the store (not online). Also, turns out that they would sometimes charge $3 for each valve stem and also another $2 or $2.50 for disposal of each tire.
Anyone know of a better place or does anyone have any connections?
