I REALLY wish that game makers still made games like these:
Instead of enhancing them graphically, and spending zillions on making things look real, why not have old school games do a retro thing like everthing else is?
Like an original-like Zelda, Castlevania, etc, etc. Where the controls are simple and you can jump right in and play instead of having to learn the game and how it works, etc, etc There were soooo many gems that could be brought back to life!
Im not saying to stop making the latest and greatest, just wish a company would focus on the original fun and easy games that you can jump into really quickly without knowing anything and play for 10 mins and have your fix. Make these games for the new i-phones and such. The ones they currently make sucz0r.
I totally agree. Sometimes I want a nice 2d side scrolling game. Megaman, Bionic commando etc. And it wasn't like these were easy games to beat, but the controls were straight forward. I'm not trying to figure out which button ducks, jumps, shoots, reloads, switches weapons, zoom, toss a grenade, etc...
If you like 8bit, you should youtube some code monkey videos.

I suppose you haent seen WiiWare ( Nintendo's online store ) It's full of retro games. But, game developers nowadays also have to follow along with the economy. One or two bad games, or good games that dont sell, or games that are " retro " will kill a company nowadays. Back then, you could make whatever you want, knowing that video games were still new and fresh, and people would want that. With current gen consoles putting out games in Blu-Ray and 1080i, the amount of gamers who want retro games is too small to justify that. Do waht I did, and save all your retro consoles. Whenever I need a fix, I pull out the ATARI 600 or NES, and relive the 80's for a lil while

I miss these type of games also in all their repetitive glory. I love how they remake some of the original games with updated graphics, ie; Super Street Fighter HD. Seriously they should make more as download content or compilation discs.

They do have compilation discs for certain companies. I know I have atari, capcom, konami, and one other classic collections
There's actually been quite a few games released lately that harken back to that simple controls and/or side scroller philosophy. Plenty of indie developers are tapping into this updated retro market. You are not alone. Shadow Complex is a great example: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/sh...la/default.htm

retro is the new NEW.
i do miss the simplicity of zelda, these new ones. **** them. i only played the handheld ones, since i couldn't afford the console games growing up. so the N64 and up Zelda's just seemed so damn crazy to me. too many buttons.
they took away the galaga/ms. pacman machine at the roundtable across the street, now i have this abundance of quarters and don't know what to do with them.
