haha squeeks and rattles and ish aint shiiiiiat when you've had 8 other previous cars that were much older and had worse so you think it's normal haha
indeed, indeed.
The '85 caravan could pick up it's left rear tire on a normal corner, but drank a quart a week while ****ting it onto everyone elses windshields
The '94 civic, once I was through with it, had more chassis flex than a foxbody mustang and the door trim buzzed over 80mph, but I epoxied that and now my little brother rocks the battlewagon
My Impreza is luxury

If squeaks and rattles bother you, you really shouldn't own a non-luxury car that is under 35k at least. Lexus has a nick name, "mobile coffin" because it's all padded and super quiet... Personally, I like noise, I like the fact that my car makes noises... It makes my car feel alive, it gives it personality, those noises tell you whats going on, how far you're pushing it, and so much more...
Some noises are def annoying, like belt squeaking, beeping, constant creaking, etc... But tire noise, coilover sounds, wind noise, certain wear and tear sounds of the interior... It makes the car feel like a car, and not some rolling coffin... Anyone understand what I mean?
One of the reasons I'll never be able to drive an electric car is due to the fact that it makes no sounds at all! How can you have a car that has no engine tone!?
The noises a car makes sort of make up it's personality, just like a person... Some are unpleasant, some are annoying, but some are unique, different, pleasant, and just something that add to the cars persona.
I know some of you will disagree with me, but imagine if race cars were perfectly silent?
No sound what so ever, just 100% quiet...

If race cars were 100% quiet, you'd think it was broken. My friend leased an IS250 (he used to own a 1990 Accord). Six months later, he's bored as hell with it. It's too soft and cozy enough to feel disconnected. I'll probably go the luxury route eventually. Not to sound smug or anything, but my 2.5RS is starting to feel too much like a kids' car and I just want something nicer. Two years away from my 30's and my target vehicles have totally changed. I just don't want to deal with the insurance costs of "fun cars" anymore. LOL.
True, the RS is not very "grown-up" as far as status is concerned. But set up right, it can play it off. Insurance is actually really cheap for what it offers.

Let me add that the shortcomings of the 2.5RS is it's power... The US version of the beloved GC was sadly slaughtered at the factory, and we received it's weak corpse which was barely just breathing...
For some reason, we still loved it because it was still better then most imoorts in our eyes... A car with half the life of it's big brother, the real GC was still better then the competing imports of it's size, and it was very affordable. It's greatest appeal was it's potential, the car was a light weight awd car with 4 wheel discs, 2.5L, 165hp, subaru's reliability, low center of gravity thanks to it's engine and tranny position... It was a great car to modify.
Unfortunate for us, we didn't get the turbo version, nor would we get a turbo verison (WRX) for another 4 years! If we would have gotten the turbo WRX engine in our 2.5RS's, the car would have been a standing legend in the USA, but for some reason, we didn't get the turbo versions which is why the car didn't get popular until 2002... At the same time, it was a great thing because it allowed for a grassroots following, only the enthusiasts in the know purchased these cars which in turn gave Subaru the loyal following that they needed to launch the WRX in the way that they did. If it wasn't for us, the original enthusiasts of the 2.5RS, we might have not ever received the WRX in the states. The WRX owes it's allegence to the 2.5RS, many folks think that the WRX is the RS's big brother, but it's the other way around.... The RS is the WRX's bigger/older brother.
The RS will always have a place in my heart. It was a great car that handled amazingly and I was able to do things in that car that I couldn't imagine doing in other, heavier cars. It was light, low center of gravity, no body roll (thanks to suspension mods), enough power to be able to take on just about any car on a mountain road... You can ask anyone that has driven behind me or in the car with me on roads like Mt Hamilton ages ago and they will tell you that the RS was a great car that could hold its own, big time.
Yeah, it was underpowered, but not by that much. To the standards of the day, 165hp was quite a bit in it's class... Once the engine swaps started appearing, the car became something even more amazing, something you talk about the next day to your friends, an amazing machine capable of so much,
my ideal 2.5RS would be as followed:
1. 2000/2001 2.5RS Coupe chassis
2. Stripped of the engine/tranny
3. Weld-in cage, very simple and minimal cage just to stiffen the chassis and no worry of hitting you head on the bars.
4. 2007 STi engine and transmission (with wiring harness) and most of the interior including DCCD, etc
5. Sparco/Recaro/Bride seats and matching alacantara (sp?) interior bits, like door panals custom made of the same fabric, rubber carpet
6. Roof scoop
7. Stock V6 exterior (with wide body if possible)
8. Custom coil over set up with adjustable damping - rebound, a very stiff setup with little to no body roll
9. sway bars front and back with upgraded end links, etc
10. Upgraded 6 pistol brakes (Brembo, Mu, etc) w/ 13.5" rotors
11. 18" forged Advan RG in gold, possibly some Super Turisomos, or the current WRC style wheels.
12. Black and red interior, like the V.5/V.6 STi's
13. Painted in either true audi pastel gray (from the Audi TT), or a high pearlesent (sp??) white paint to finish it all off.
Add a little bit of style bits here and there, nothing loud or crazy, nice and subtle, and you have the perfect subaru in my eyes.
I'm not kidding, to me, those 13 steps of Subaruism would make the perfect machine that would suit every single one of my subaru needs, and I'm sure most of you enthusiasts would take this GC (or GM6 actually) over any other brand new subaru offered in the subaru line up (minus maybe a 22B).
Imagine how great it would be to own a street legal machine with an STi drive train, with a mild access port tune, and weighing in at 2800lbs! You wouldn't need to modify it engine-wish because it would be soooo fast and would hurt handling if you had anymore power. The car woud handle like a dream.
Man, if had around 30k of cash laying around to use on a car project, I'd make one hell of a monster GC that handled like a bat out of hell!!!
Thats why I think the GC8/GM6 is such an amazing car, its potential alone makes it magnificent! Not to mention how beautiful a well kept one is!

In case you guys are wondering what Advan RG's are, they are old school Advan wheels that came out in the 90's (late 90's) and have remained my fav wheels to this day, especially when they are 18's or so... AMAZING.
They are gold and have a blue stripe as you can see in the pic... Its easier to see in real life.
Imagine some 13.5" rotors, huge 6 pot project Mu brakes behind those huge advan RG wheels.

BOZZ in Fremont had a couple sets in stock for years, prolly still do.

Behold, the RG... The RGII's look good too.

I dunno, I might have to go with the SuperTurismos for a GC, where they belong. It's like the car they were invented for... lol
First pic I found:
