Talking I might go drive Hwy 36 this Saturday

Depending on if my Volkswagen's transaxle comes home or not.
Probably leave pretty early Sat morning, like 7:00-ish (in my Suby of course). If my trans comes, I'll stay home and work on the Bug.

i got a lil roadtrip plan to hit hwy 36, from the valley side, then go down 1/101, and loop back through 580/205 to go back home to stockton.......all in all, i was planning a good 18 hours w/ food and breaks and all...

hey jmir, does that sound like a reasonable duration estimate?

From Stockton, you're looking at probably 3-4 hours to Red Bluff, then another 4 or so over to 101, probably 5 back to Marin and another couple of hours to Stockton depending on traffic and how much time you take for breaks, 18 hrs might be a little long, but it probably isn't too far off.

I've always done it as a 2-day trip, overnighting either up around Red Bluff or over in the Eureka area.

I did a loop one day from San Leandro, up to Fortuna, over from 101 to Red Bluff and down to Davis (stopped at Murder Burger for dinner) in about 7hr. This included getting stuck in bad traffic near Santa Rosa goin up 101.

I don't know, maybe it's too far for a day! You know me.....I'll run the wheels off of a car in a day!

yeah- I'd do it in a day too, but I probably wouldn't reccomend it, besides theres a lot of cool stuff up that way that warrents spending a little more time exploring....

Well as luck would have it, my VW transaxle showed up today so it looks like I'll be setting up the axles and bolting it up this weekend. No Coast Range drive this weekend.

But hopefully May 15 we can have a few WRX's run down Hwy 25/198?

later-
Jim

With detours for the dirt-lovers on Browns Valley and/or Old Hernandez?

Keep us advised.
