I hate work politics...

So me and all of my boss' direct reports have a meeting with my boss' boss (did i lose anyone?) at 4pm.

The meeting lasted all of 45 seconds. The guy tells us effective immediately we report to him now. I email my boss...his email address no longer works. I call him at his hotel (he's remote and visits SF) and he checked out at 9am.

WTF!?!?! no warning, my boss gave no kind of hint...my boss isn't the type to just up and leave without letting me know what's going on.

My dept consists of two people (including me) and it was created through my boss' vision and now that he's gone I'm thinking this department will be dissolved. SUCKS!!!!!!

What really pisses me off is that my boss is a real good guy, great person, excellent work ethic....and now this.

I hate the way my company conducts itself.

And through all this crapulence, one of the first things that ran through my head was "****!!! how am I going to make my car payments...damn, will I have to sell the suby? noooo". it's kinda funny in a strange way when i think about it...but in the end it really just sucks...

that's my rant for the week.

dude...don't get me started.

I've been with the same company since 98'. It just keeps getting worse.

They hired this dude like...less than 2 years ago. Little younger than me and until then I was by far the youngest in the department...EVER. Well within a few months the forced my boss out. This kid becomes my boss. Hmmm...weird. Wonder if it's cause he plays in a band with my director and is married to another directors daughter.

Next thing you know the department changes...now he's all of the graphic people's bosses. Next thing you know it changes again.

They split the department in 2. Give all the **** work to my group. His group takes the good stuff. In other words they get 2 weeks minimum to work on a project and design everything. I get as little as 2 days and get to design nothing. 10 times the work..none of the fun.

Turns out a bunch of his college buddies suddenly got hired into his department. On top of that they have a contracter doing it too. I've been here longer than anybody pretty much and they constantly overlook me when good stuff comes up.

Funny thing is...I am the only artist that's gotten any awards....2. And pretty much anyone in the company will tell you I'm the best.

Problem is....we're in CA..they're in TX. They do the same work...generally not as good as us out here but they do it for 20-30% less. The director is trying to cut cost...why not cut $60k a year off the top by getting rid of us and replacing us with people in TX.

It's all politics. Who knows who. Who's banging who. Who kisses the most *** or sucks the best stick.

Nope, my company deals with electronic mortgage payments. If you're a relatively new homeowner and received some type of solicitation promising early mortgage payoff it's probably from my company.

Seriously Ryan start looking for another job now if you feel your job is at risk. Besides if you go on interviews while you are still employed the odds are more in your favor of getting hired. I have a few friends back home that are HR managers and these are words out of their mouths. I have been in that boat before and it sucks but remember only you can market yourself. So dust off that suit and hit the pavement. Good luck to you bro!

No doubt, I'm looking. I've got some connections in LA so I going to see what's opportunities are available down there.

I've got a meeting today with my new boss to figure out what the hell is planned for my two man group. In any event, I don't see myself here for too long.

Still haven't heard from my old boss. From what I've been told he was pretty shaken up...caught him off guard. I'm sure he'll be fine though.

5 minutes till meeting time...

I'll give the Cliff's notes version...

I tried to get an official statement as to the nature of my former boss' departure. Only answer I could get out of the guy was "I can only tell you that you report to me..." The guy was the former head of our HR dept so he's a master of vagueness and withholding info.

I wanted to know what the plans were for my two man wrecking crew as this dept would no longer have the driving force behind it to get exposure to our exec team and the entire company. He gave me the "big picture", "one voice, one company" line. I have to admit he did have some good ideas and plans with my dept. From what he says my dept's role will be expanding, "exploding" as he puts it. But we're just one of many pieces of his newly acquired puzzle and much more planning and scoping out is to be done.

Sounds good, but I've heard this story before. I hope for the best, but I'm prepared for the worst and I'm still looking around.

My co-worker, the other guy in my dept seems a bit shaken up. This has been more of a reality check for him. I told him all we could do is be prepared and ready for whatever happens.

Man, do you work for russians or something? Maybe he got shipped to Siberia? =)

You think he'd at least ping you from his personal email or something.

Well that sorta sounds like good news but given the fact that your new boss is a master at being vague I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Atleast it doesn't seem like you are in immediate danger which will work out for you while looking for something better.

4 Rules to work by in order to "succeed" in the office.

1. NEVER EVER TRUST YOUR BOSS.
2. Don't be naive and let yourself be side swiped by your co-worker! i.e Limited Trust
3. ALWAYS WORK ON VISIBLE PROJECTS.
4. Alignment Alignment Alignment (I am not telling you to sell your soul or be a **** gobbler but remember who signs the pay check)

Hope it helps!

so now I have a meeting with HR tomorrow at 10. They said they need some input from me b/c they're trying to put together some information. I asked them "information for what?". they said they'd let me know more in the meeting...great.

I'm probably reading too much into it, but I've seen instances where folks go in to "help out HR" and come out in trouble in some way....or unemployed.

this company rocks! *sarcasm*
