i guess my car is sorta fast ... :)

Hi All,
My car got its first drag strip runs in 2 years. Woohoo! I drove down to california speedway (fontana, CA - about 350 miles away), unloaded the trunk and it was subjected to three runs. (Someone else did the runs for me ... I didn't do it myself).

The best run was:
60' - 2.0 (which sounds wrong to me)
1/4 Mile - 12.63 seconds
Trap - 110.7 mph

(no power shifting and very easy launch - hence the 60' time ... i guess there would be a few more tenths if we dropped the clutch and power shifted the car ... oh well).

Everyone told me that that 110.7 mph is insanely good ... but I'm not sure why ... can some one explain? I thought it was all time based.

Hi All,
I'm running Vishnu Stage 2 with Vishnu Intercooler (signature series exhaust). My engine, clutch and tranny are both originals with 32K miles on them. I've now got the Vishnu Stage 2 Suspension setup ... you'll hear more about it in the July/Aug issue of Sport Compact Car (we go against some other tuned WRXs and the STI). Can't say anything now ... there is an information embargo until May 1st.

Ooo ... another important note. I tried race gas (94,95, 100 and 100+) tuning my setup and was only able to manage a few more whp at the peak between all the different formulas. After about 95 octane, we really didn't see much gain. All the differences come out in the mid-end and the torque falloff is a lot slower (i'll see if I can find my dyno plot comparison). For the contest, we only used 91 octane (rules, rules, rules)

I also found out for one of the other competitors who came out there, that they said our 91 is worse than their 87 octane (you heard it right, he said 87 not 89). Not to mention, they get 95 out of the pump for $1.79/gallon. It sucks here in CA, but at least we get sun.

We simply ran out of turbo, injectors and pump all at the same time (which is good utilization of the pieces that are used). I highly recommend the VS2 for those who can afford it.

WOW. Good times Steve. If you get your launches down to 1.8 60" time, you might run 12.3's and 12.2's. Since each .01 in the your 60' time, is worth .02 at the end of the track. And since you are getting down the track faster, your trap speed will probably go down a bit.

I am going to Sears Point next week Wednesday April 9th, to try out my catless exhaust. Wanna come with me? I will give you some pointers in lauching....hint....hint....

Hi KurleeDaddee,
Sounds like a plan ... let me know when you'd like to leave the south bay area.

Thumbs up

Nice time slip. That is not "sorta fast". That is "fast". You are running with Z06 vettes now.

But, you can't truly judge "fast" in a straight line...lets take it to the road course!

Hi BADWRX,
Agreed ... with my (just barely above) monkey-level of driving skills, I was able to rattle off:

Thunderhill - 2:14 (CCW)
Laguna Seca - 1:59 (CCW)

Someone else was able to use my car:

Streets of Willow (using the back stretch, the bottom S's and not the fast skidpad outlet) - 1:34 (CW)

Thunderhill - 2:04 (CCW + traffic)

Cheers

Hi All,
My car has full interior - minus spare and jack. All the runs were conducted on 91 octane. The test people were strickly enforcing this. The turbo is a VF30.
