on tickets there is an appear in court date, if you fail to follow that date, regardless of what is sent in the mail, or not sent int he mail for that matter, it is considered failure to appear if I am not mistaken

FYI
i recently got two speeding tickets and was in court a month ago. take it from me, although your ticket doesn't say a court appearance date and they haven't sent you a mail notification about it, it is still YOUR responsibility to appear and pay the fine.
a few things might happen:
1.) judge puts a failure to appear in court in your record and fine you from $1000-$10000 or a possible trip to jail.
2.) unpaid fine will accumulate over months and your 200 dollar ticket will stack up into a 1000 dollar ticket.
3.) failure to pay the fine, you get a permanent point in your license. hence your insurance company and DMV will be notified.
4.) you'll miss out on traffic school. the points will stay on your record for 3 years!
5.) get your car towed when the next time you get pulled over when they check that you have an outstanding ticket and that failure to appear.
hope that helps.

the judge threw out my FTA on the grounds that i wasn't properly notified, and acted on the FTA as soon as i was notified. so my $300 ticket was dropped to $10 (it was a fix it ticket).
