haha. Actually, just a minor scratch on the bumper. Nothing serious, it's just funny get hit by a police car.
Thing is though, just bought my car a couple weeks ago, no insurance so i dunno what to do

I got rearended at a stoplight by an Alameda County Messenger Service minivan earlier in the year.
The guy said he had stopped about 5 ft away from my car but a bee stung him and so he let go of the break and he bumped me. Still he managed to crack my bumper.
I don't know if this would apply to the police dept. but at least these people were self-insured. I called his supervisors and got them to fax me a form that I had to send back. A couple of weeks later I got a letter from this third party that was in charge of handling this cases. Since all I was asking for were $800 approx. to fix the bumper (most likely replace) they had no problem with it. They just had to check the report the driver made and 2 months later I had my money.
good luck with everything,
hugo

It is covered when you drive it off the lot by the same policy that you have for your other vehicles, and its your responsibility to call your insurance company to tell them that you have the vehicle in your pocession and do the paperwork on it within a certain amount of time.

Hmmm.... Oww.. My neck hurts... Might have to work this one. Put in a claim against the city. And yes, use a lawyer if you aren't getting anywhere with the claim. Don't worry about not having any insurance yourself, but get it as quick as possible in case you run into me!

yeah, if you had insurance on your previous vehicle, or on any vehicle, that coverage, in california at least, applies to any new vehicle you purchase for 30 days.
also, the dealer should have checked that you had insurance before letting you leave, they did with me when I bought mine...
