i feel used...

quick story since i'm stuck at work, bored off my you know what.

i installed an autometer boost gauge yesterday on my 05 wrx that i bought used last year with 33k miles on it - and i came across something interesting.

the biggest reason why i bought this wrx is that it was seemingly untouched. all the seals on the exhaust were original, the engine was clean and there were no signs of modification whatsoever; a good sign when buying a used WRX from a dealer as you all know...

when i was running the hose through the firewall, i found the grommet had already been cut and the firewall had likewise been tapped.

no big deal i figure, but it was a unusually depressing discovery. something that i thought was so untouched and stock had actually been molested before. uncool!

any thoughts on what it could have been? there are no signs that the stereo was replaced or that there was any gauges before.

compression test ftw. I would look at all the bolts on the DP/catback/bpv as well to see if they were tampered with.

lol, you bought a USED car and your hearts broken because you found a hole in a grommit? Hell when I buy a used car all I care about is if it hasnt been welded back together at the firewall! You should probably just stick to new cars if your holding your expectations that high

Could have been a stock gauge even. Dont be a wuss, its not like you have had a problem with it. Just pretend like you never knew, there is no difference. If you are worried about buying a wrx with a gauge maybe its the wrong car for you........i mean come on.

And if you really cared you wouldn't buy one from a dealer.....

You used to be able to get a boost gauge from the factory as an option... Lots of people run boost gauges on stock cars for rice purposes, including krinkov.

nah i'm not too bent on the fact that i found this! i bought it used and i knew that any finding like this would be an option. regardless, i am happy with my car.

the good part is there was one less step for me in the install process of a new gauge!

the only thing i would disagree with is using a boost gauge on a mostly stock wrx. i only have intake and exhaust with plans to do much more, but it's nice to see what the turbo is up too. being that this is my first turbo'd car, i can see when the turbo actually spools, rather than guessing. just imho...am i just dumb for thinking this?

plus, for a 25 year old white guy, rice is nice!
