HP tx1215nr llatop review and MS vista
Just bought the HP tx1215 from bestbuy. It's a pretty neat laptop so far as it's very suitable for me for the following reasons.
It's lightweight and small screen make for easy mobility as well as fast processing with it's AMD TURION dual core. Equipped with a gig of ram and a 160gig sata hd makes it easy to load and run software with fast speed. It's swivel screen is pretty neat and it also has a built in web came. And for $900 i couldn't have gone wrong. But microsoft def did.
Windows vista home premium is a neatly (graphically) designed OS but is udder f'in CRAP.
I say this because other than the cool little 'gadget' bar on the side, windows XP pro +1's it by FAR.
I got really tired of having to 'accept' these stupid prompts whenever I chose to run a program. Yeah, i double clicked it for a REASON. and YES im POSITIVE i would LOVE to uninstall the stupid HP utilities that are preinstalled.
It took me about an hour to uninstall all the useless programs that it came installed with, and it was really frustrating having to do extra "security" steps (lame vista). Anyways, so i decided to put XP on it, and leave vista alone incase friends of mine ran into problems, i could then load vista and trouble shoot with them etc etc.
Now, this partition tool i use (partition magic) doesn't work with Vista, so i had to use Disk Management to create a new partition. (whhoooops!)
i don't think the government/microsoft wanted ANYTHING but vista to run on my laptop... and this is why.
Okay, so i created a new partition using drive letter D: which wasn't a problem.
So now my C: is running vista, and my D: is blank (50 gigs and formatted in NTFS)
Great, so now i rebooted with an XPsp2 CD iv'e used since april of this year (never had any problems on the 10 machines iv'e put it on) By the way, i'm not a pirater or theif, i just don't believe in paying microsoft for their os's espically if iv'e bought a laptop with their product installed (they aren't hurting for money)..
okay back on topic..
I install XP pro fine, manage to find most of the drivers (gfx and cpu) but WAIT... not all the drivers are easy accessible... HP doesn't support windows XP for their newest laptops !! everything is geared towards vista... and thats that.
So not having sound working and having NO time to google the **** outta these drivers i decide to boot my vista partition and just deal with it.
**PROBLEM** i can't get a dual boot prompt outta my HP, so it defaults to XP... my D: that i had installed XP on is now saying its the C:\ yet C: is where vista is... it's a HUGE loop.
So i install partition magic on the XP and set my vista drive as the boot partition.
IT DOESN'T WORK...
something in vista is keeping it's partition hidden in any OS besides itself (i couldn't boot to it, view files from it, visibly see it in my computer)
the only way i could see the vista partition was from disk management in XP where it said C: (Volume unsable)
GREEEAT.... now im stuck... and vista is unusable
I even put the vista recovery/install disk in and run that and "fix" the problems that it's then unable to fix.
So now im stuck with a driverless laptop running XP....
basically vista home premium sucks, just like XP home does just like microsoft in general does.
time to load up SUSE nix or fedora core
im so pist at you microsoft, you get the big -1
Cliffs: hp tx1215nr machine is GREAT, light weight, fast, and cool looking
MS windows vista is a POS. (piece of shyte)

Ay, I wouldn't be surprised if the mods move this post since its not baic specific. heh heh.
How does the Turion run Vista speedwise? Does it have an integrated GPU or is it stand-alone? How's the GUI performance? congrats on the new machine.

I'm kinda linking playing around with Vista. I think it'll only get better with time/service pack updates too. We'll see though. I just picked up an HP dv6000 for the wifey recently and have been very satisfied thus far. It's not a rockstar, but we didn't pay rockstar prices either. A good tradeoff I think.
