It goes a little deeper than that... The large star in the logo represents Fuji Heavy Industries, and the five smaller stars represent the current five companies that are united under the FHI group.

I can't remember the names exactly but I do remember that their names all started with "Fuji" and each company specialized in the different components that went into the cars.

Looked it up...

Fuji Kogyo, a scooter manufacturer;
Fuji Jidosha, coachbuilders;
Omiya Fuji Kogyo, engine manufacturers;
Utsunomiya Sharyo, chassis builders;
Tokyo Fuji Dangyo trading company

So close, 4 out of 5 have Fuji in them
