I don't bother getting the flu vaccine as while it may help to prevent the disease at the beginning of the flu season, by the end of the flu season the disease has mutated to a new form and you are still susceptible to this new strain.

Honestly, you are a full grown adult. If you are in relatively good shape you are really not going to be at risk of this disease. The media has blown this disease WAYYY out of proportion. The people at the highest risk for this disease are the young (babies, infants, teenagers) as their immune system is not fully developed yet and the elderly where they have a weakened immune system. If you do not take care of yourself and are not in a relatively healthy state then yes you may be more likely to catch this disease, but it is not going to be the worst thing in the world and it probably won't be the worst disease you've ever had or will ever get.

As others have said ... If you are sick then STAY THE HELL HOME! Too many people like to go out in public, go to work, visit friends or whatever when they are sick. This is the type of behavior that causes OTHERS to get sick and then keeps diseases like this active and spreading. If people were to quarantine themselves away from others while they recover then this disease and many others would die out a lot sooner.

You are more likely to catch this disease by air then you are by touching something. That means avoid people that are coughing or sneezing. While it may be a good thing to wash your hands often and keep clean if you are sitting next to someone that is breathing all over you and is infected you are more likely to catch it that way rather than using a doorknob a short time after the person has left the room. At this point I do use a paper towel when I touch door handles, but I am personally not scared of this particular disease.

Also, what you might consider doing is every day AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME go take a shower. Do this before doing anything else in your house. Make sure your house stays clean. Cleaning off before doing anything else will help to remove any germs from spreading and contaminating you in an area where you spend a relatively large chunk of your time.

Oh come on, you knew what I meant. I'm well aware of how the vaccine works.

My work gave me and everyone that was their for shot day a H1N1 injection. All we had to do was fill out 2 papers really quick and wait in line. But the lady administering them, man she was horrible. After the guy before me got his swine juice the needle went flying out of her hand in a crazed flesh hungry frenzy!!!! Luckily it landed on the ground in the safety of the Carpet's soft padded carpet.

I had it. I didn't know it was H1N1 until my room mate got sick and she got tested. We both exhibited the same symptoms so I assumed it was one and the same.
There was mucus build up/coughing, aching muscles, mild fever, and a headache. I've had far worse run ins with the flu. It had me out of class for three days and feeling less than optimal maybe a day or two on both ends. I took drugs (over the counter cold/flu relief), ate, drank a lot of water, slept and got better. Just let your immune system do its job. Save the vaccine for the young and the old.

In all fairness I deserved to get sick. Playing beer pong and flip cup with dozens of people introducing pathogens into the same environment is stupid. But hey, I survived to tell the tale.

I havent had it but my family in oregon is getting it bad. They were told no one there but school kids and health workers get the shot, Not enough to go around. It sucks for him being a police officer that he couldnt get the shot and now most of his friends and family members on the police force have it.

I wont ever get another flu shot again in my life if i can help it. The one and only one they gave me years ago made me so ill i was puking for 3 months straight and they said no more flu shots for me and i agreed haha.

well actually, this is a flu that rapidly mutates so you can actually get it twice, nevertheless I had it and it sucked, worst flu Ive ever had.

I have not had it and I hope i dont get it. Although I still got the shot since I do work at the hospital, I still take all precautions I can- cleaning hands after every patient encounter, wearing a mask around almost every patient, and I dont touch my face with my hands.

The swine flu is no joke! Some people have gotten it and they seem to be fine after a little bit of time, but I have seen some really sick people fighting for their lives. Just because they say the most affected people are from 6 months-24 years old doesnt mean that the swine flu wont hit older people as well. Everyone should just be cautious

Rapidly mutating is kind of relative and that logic reinforces not getting the vaccine.

Same here. Usually, people are really sick when they get to ICU department. But some Swine-flu patient kept me super busy - running around all day and no time to sit down at all. ARDS is @#$ with rotoprone bed and nitricoxide. So, I took that vaccine.

now wouldn't a low immune system be better to have as h1n1 uses your immune system against itself? my wife has r.a. and is sooooo scarred she will get it... god I hope she dont!

I think the real question is how many people have been TESTED & CONFIRMED to have H1N1.

I have. It sucked.

The wife and I are talking about vaccination right now because she's pregnant. We've both already had it and have been WAY against the vaccination because it's pretty much untested and people assume it's all good because it's pretty much the same process as standard seasonal flu vaccines. But after talking to the doctor this morning (they're being TOLD to push it by the way) we may do it so the baby has some of the anitbodies in her when she's born.

I might get it because the real danger is when it goes into your chest and I already get GNARLY chest sick EVERY year. I've always felt that if doing something stupid doesn't kill me pneumonia will.

my wife does too and she got through it o.k. with no medication. And all she could take was Tylenol because she was pregnant.

It's the same process really. Lots of fluids. Vitamins and rest. Do your best to keep the temp down. Go in if it gets really bad.

My temp busted over 104 and hung around it for 3 days straight. My wife's was a bit lower. Mostly between 100-101 but did get up around 103 for a little while.

Its a big fat sham, tons of people have the swine flu and don't even know it, and recover accordingly. I had it, not a big deal.

Older people do get the swine flu, it doesn't discriminate, its just has a higher chance of causing a deadly cytokine storm in healthier patients.

That's how I've felt about it. Actually has less deaths put on it than the regular flu.

I think it's odd that we're in a health crisis (financially/government issue) and then we get a super bug that has people flooding to the doctors offices like crazy. Good for my wife for job security but still odd.

I think the issue is that it's a more dangerous issue for younger people than the regular flue. Where as the regular flu is really only danger for old or fragile people.

My wife is seriously pissed off about it. She's and MA and it's a hot button for her. She gets so irritated about how wigged people get.
