Thats pretty unfortunate. I know what you mean though. My last ex was always seemed to find her way into abusive guys (I was NOT one of them.) She seems to attract those kind of guys. We split for mutual reasons.

A person in a relationship will usually look to the bad things, and see the "freedom" of being single.
A single person will want to do the things that require a partner in crime.

In the end, almost anything you do or measure is going to be compared and biased against your experiences.

That's what I say every time my 270 hp feels slow.
