how hard is it to go from 5x100 to 5x114...

i'm guessing the diff is at the axles?

so a 4x axle swap is all that's needed?

reason: tons of cheap STi BBS rims...

unless it costs less than $500 to do the swap, i don't think its worth the hassle just to swap to a 5x114..

you do get cheaper oem bbs rims, but that difference you saved just went into the 5x114 swap

try searching nasioc, there have been many threads on this though

You will need:

Wheels
Axles/Hubs
All 4 axles (different length, outer CV on all 4, and inner CV on rears)
rear brakes
front struts
An alignment

I wouldn't mind doing this swap. Just too pricey. 5x114 gets way more aggressive wheel options i.e. the enkei rpf1's I want.

I did a 6MT swap recently, major cost saving by using 04 STi hubs / knuckles which allow the use of wrx struts /springs, but I'm still stuck with the 5x100 going this route. If you are just after factory BBS wheels, I think it would be cheaper to just pay the premium for a set of 04 STi bbs than do the swap just for the 5x114. Hubs and knuckles alone can cost a hundred dollars a corner or more, the front axles could be re-used from your wrx but when you upgrade the rear hub / knuckes, the wrx axles will not mate to them. Then you would have to buy an R180 rear. The only way I would go this route is if you planned on putting in a 6MT and if I had it to do all over again, I would have just sold my car and bought an STi. Just my opinion.

I think you should be able to get the 5x100 RPF1's on tirerack, I may be wrong though.

If you are looking for BBS wheel options, the Rota Tarmac 2 are cheaper than OEM BBS, only a little heavier, and look pretty much the same.

The major trouble is at the rear of the car.
To use 114 hubs, you need to use 114 knuckles and axles.
To use the axles, you need to use an R180 rear diff.
