How did this happen? (driver's side "lock core" pushed in)
So the "lock core" (or whatever you call the keyhole assembly) that's on my driver's side door is no longer where its supposed to be. A few questions:
1) How did this happen? Do you think someone tried to jack my car or did it happen on its own?
2) Is it safe to leave my car parked like this, or is it more vunerable to theft, i.e. someone can stick a coat hanger or something inside the hole and pull on a cable to open the door, etc.?
3) How do I fix this?

Thanks for the help!

resize ur pics please... but yeah, looks like someone shoved a flathead into and tryed to bust it open. i think fixing something like that is a matter or getting a new lock core and setting the pins inside to match ur key. as for parking ur car, i think it would be a good idea to keep it somewhere safe, but if ur insured and don't care then do what ever. i don't think u can stick a coat hanger into that hold and pull the door cable, but i can be wrong. but i do know this, if someone really wants ur car, ur car is good as gone, no matter what u do.

Same thing happened to me. I noticed it at home (lock made a funny noise as I was leaving the car).
In my case it turned out one of the screws that held the cylinder in place had backed out. Could have been foul play, but my money is on a lousy design.
I rummaged around this board and others and found instructions for disassembling the inside of the door. It was geared towards guys DIY upgrading speakers but it did the trick for me. I'm sorry I don't remember where I found it, but it could have been scoobymods.
Or you could take it to a dealer or better yet an independant mechanic.
