How to access windows registry?

So after many failed attempts to uninstall Kodak EasyShare software, I opted to manually delete the files. Now, when I try to reinstall the program from the CD, it still tells me that I have a newer version installed and refuses to do anything. So I figured that I must have to delete the registry files, however I cannot find where the hell that is. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am about to take a pickaxe to this POS computer. All I want to do is get my pictures from my digicam to my computer.

I don't know which OS you're using (I'm still using 98), but RegEdit is a commonly used tool that comes with Windows. There are third-party tools that are supposed to be better but I've never tried them.

Caution: If you've never used RegEdit to modify the Registry, you'd better talk to someone who has experience with this sort of thing. My dealings with the Registry have turned out okay, but only with very simple changes, many of which I read about in magazines or online. It's easy to screw up the Registry enough to make it unusable. If that happens, you are going to have bigger problem than uninstalling the Kodak program.

You can export a copy of the Registry from one of the RegEdit menu items. I would do this first before making changes.

In the registry, do a "find". Type in Kodak. Keep doint the "find next" thing and delete any keys that point to anything to do with Kodak.

I mess with the registry all the time. Yes, you need to back that puppy up, but that is simple.

Good luck,
Andy

i am trying to get rid of all traces of kodak anything on my computer. i've done a search and destroy mission on everything and anything with "kodak" in it including anything in the registry. what are some other possibilities? i'm thinking there's some .dll files that aren't necessarily labelled "kodak" but are preventing the installer from doing anything. any idea on how to decide which .dlls are kodak? or how to force the POS to install like it's supposed to? kodak is unavailable for comment at this time.

and i'm about to kill someone/something. yes something definitely needs to die. any one want to buy a cx4230 in about 3 million pieces?

EDIT - thank you all for your responses, they have been very helpful. for reference i am using win98fe from 8th century BCE on a 300mHz P2, 192MB PC66 RAM, 14GB powerhouse of a focking computer.
