i must have missed the part where he was a brat and not thankful

they knew what his reaction was going to be long before he opened the gift, and they planned on laughing at him saying "we can't afford an xbox."

they got his hopes up and then smashed it down while laughing in his face

Average cost of a meal at McDonalds: $10.
5 meals a week at $50 is $200 a month.

That monstrosity stops eating garbage for 2 months and avoids a heart attack at 45 and can afford to give her son some happiness. Everybody wins.
