So I've had this annoying rattle in my '03 bugeye wagon for the longest time. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me - until today (I think). I noticed that the hood scoop has a few mm of up and down play - it's not terribly noticeable at first, but if you grab it and move it up and down, it's pretty obvious that it could create a rattling noise from the car vibrations.



Looking at the picture, it seems like it's loosest on the right side. Has anyone had this problem before? I briefly checked to see if any of the screws were loose, but none seemed like they were. Just thought I'd check with you guys to make sure I wasn't crazy ....

 

when i had my bugeye i had the same problem and then i swapped it with the jdm scoop and the jdm splitter. its just something ur gonna have to live with or throw is in some rubber washers

 

My scoop looks like its gonna fly off sometimes but I've never heard a noise

 

Damn - I might try putting some rubber spacers in or something.

The splitter or the scoop? The picture you have posted circles the screws for the splitter. If it's your scoop, there should be some old weatherstripping on it (iirc) that prevents the rattling.

My scoop too, looks like it might just fly off when going freeway speeds, but it has never rattled.

 

Hm..weatherstripping? I don't recall seeing any - maybe that's the problem?
