they have been around since the 90s.

although i havent followed the car audio world as i used to, and with companies being sold and acquired, who knows who owns them now...

Hiphonics are not one of the best amps out there but definitely 'a good bang for a buck'. I installed one in my Legacy and it sounded decent with my Legacy factory speakers.

I agree they aren't the best amp ever, but they definitely last a long time and are hard to break. They are very tough and sound awesome. I'd give them a shot

Not to mention many of them are built 1 ohm stable, that says a lot about an amp when the company advertises the use of 1 ohm stable.

the "old school" hiphonics amps were built really good but i can't say much about the newer ones. a lot of newer made amps are crap compared to several years ago

i had a Hifonics amp, it was the Hifonics Brutus Bxi1206D monoblock amp. Bought it for 2something new. Its a great amp! Used it to power my 15" Kicker L7 and it was pounding.
heres a link to a bxi1606d, one level above mines for PRETTY cheap! http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6336.html

btw...my hifonics amp never overheated on me.

I had 3 amps in a tight space without much air circulation....and the Hiphonics was the only amp that lasted.
