I've had a Mcculloch kit (4600K) installed for about a year in my Legacy, without any problems. But, as x002x can attest to, I don't drive the car often.
Here's my cutoff and the color of the 4600K bulbs (~25' back);

i had mccullochs' in my mr2 but i took them off because of the glare, i woudl recommend them if you put them in projectors, but as of now i have Kaixens' in my suby and love them, i get a nice clean cut off and its nice and bright.

I say stick with the Philips HID kits. Yeah, they cost a little bit more but in the end they are superior to the McCulloch ones which were known have problems with the ballasts over time. Like within 1 year.

as far as I know, the name on the HID kit means little more than a name for people to say they had good or bad experiences with them. Since HID kits aren't legal in the US, the name brand kits like Philips, Denso, etc are all basically piece parts put together. The companies which sell these get replacement parts from the OE cars and remodify them to work with other applications.
I've had terrible experiences with ProXenon (please save yourself a headache and don't even consider them), but there's a place in Milpitas who sells a kit I've been using for almost 1 year. What I like about them being so close, is that if anything breaks, there's no real turn-around time since all you need to do is call 1 hour in advance and they'll have the part ready. So far, only thing that's failed me with these are the radio shack relays which I use for a homemade relay setup.

I hope so
And if you have S2k projectors right now, I'd stick with those over the 350z units.

The projector is what the bulb plugs into is whats used to gather and send out the light from the HID bulb. The cut off shield is there to prevent blinding people, it moves to allow more light out like a high beam bulb (thus blinding people)

100% waterproof. I saw them dunk in a fish tank and run it for 4 hours at HIN. I was pretty impressed.
