Hey sushi resturant, you makin' fun of me?

Alright guys, I took my mom to a pretty decent sushi resturant, at least a decent one for roseville, and we were cracking up about the size of the rolls they gave us. Like seriously, bigmac sized slices of a roll. It was really really good, said my western-trained tastebuds - but they were so big that you could absolutley not eat them without a mess. I saw somewhere that its a custom to eat sushi in one entire bite, but these guys made it impossible to do so.

So what I'm wondering is, behind the counter the little japanese guys just have to be laughing at us stupid fat hick americans trying to eat these enormous rolls. Is it some subconcious stab at our tendency to over-consume? Or am i other-thinking something that i should be stoked about? Has anyone else noticed this? I never really get it down here in the city, but up there i was watching the chefs just to make sure they were'nt cracking up.

"a decent one for roseville" lol

There isn't a decent anything there...let alone a sushi place.

<-----has been to a really crazy buffet sushi/mongolianBBQ/chinese/grill place where you just pay an entry fee and then pig out. nothing is really super good, but it does the job. I think it was called "VIP Buffet" or something up near placerville/coloma ??

Theres a place like that in Concord, in the Park and Shop Plaza. Great Wall Buffet I belive. All you can eat chinese food, and all you can eat sushi bar. Entry and free soda is like 7 bucks a head. If you go to the one in Fairfield, next to the mall, they have a Mongolian BBQ instead of asushi bar. Of course all you can eat.

You might try Fuji Chef in Davis. I haven't been there yet but a friend at work told me that the line can stretch down the block for lunch if you don't arrive early. Price for this buffet eatery is quite reasonable.

EDIT: I'm told that while Fuji Chef may not have all traditional dishes on display, items such as sashimi may be requested and they prepare it for you (difficult to keep fresh when left out).

Umeko Seafood Buffet on Folsom Blvd used to be good but changed their venue to standard lunch and dinner (non-buffet). The sushi was quite good, IMO - about an 'A-'.

New China Buffet on 65th St near Florin Mall has tasty food at a cheap price for lunch on weekdays - I think it was $7.00 the last time I was there. I'd grade their fresh-made sushi about a 'B', maybe 'B+'.

Do you know where the new Fry's is? Its around there.

From 680 North, get off on Willow Pass Road hook right off the freeway. Go straight untill You get to Market Street. Go straight again and your there. It will be on the left hand side of the road. Look for a big Ross store. It's close to there I belive...

wow I've never complained that sushi rolls were too big. I say the more the better, unless it was just overloaded with rice. then I just scrap that off.

Hhahahah, well, i mean - they were goddamned good, and i was happy to be letting them rock my face off. They were the kind where they put every kind of fish on the menu in it, then tempura the hell out of it. You really can't go wrong, i just thought it was funny - after eating the dainty little dishes they serve down here, going up there and trying to take down one of those discus sized ones was funny as all get up. Trying to put them in your mouth all "mr. sushi-master" style just ended up looking someone was trying to stick a cheeseburger through a mail-slot.

Well, im glad you don't think its a stab, BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF THE JAPANESE KEEPIN' THE WHITE MAN DOWN!!!!!

The only reason many people go there is due to the relative cheapness. It's all you can eat for lunch around 9 dollars per person. The sushi is dirt cheap, but not that great.
