help! my car is totaled
help! my car is totaled
anyone can help? I just been into an accident and the insurance company may total my car. they said they will give me the actual market value for my rex. do I expect them pay me the trading value or the private selling value? it seems around 1-2k difference between those two. and I have over 10k of aftermarket parts on my car. can I claim all the money for the parts? i never been in this kind of situation before. hope i can get some idea before I talk to the insurance company. any advise will be appreciated
thanks
thanks

okay, here's what you do. try to find all the receipts for your aftermarket parts. this is not a quick process, expect to get a check in about 5 to 6 weeks. check you policy to find out how much they will pay for a rental car. you may want to consider buying a beater because rental cars can be expensive. i've found enterprise to be the cheapest.
then, you'll definitely want them to total the car. you may not find that out for a week or two. i have mercury insurance and although i was very disappointed in their service, the check they gave me was... well, very generous. be sure to ask your rep up front what will happen to the parts you had on it. some companies reimburse you if you have receipts, some don't.
another thing, don't be afraid to hound your rep with phone calls to make sure things are getting done. if they only reimburse you for a month of rental car, and they drag their *** to get anything done, guess who gets screwed? you do. so if nothing's happening, call your rep and tell him to get his *** in gear. trust me, you'll thank yourself. if you have any other questions, just ask. i've been through this one, and although it's not fun, you can definitely come out of it nicely.
btw - were you at fault, and what happened??

they usually give you the kbb retail value.. so the value of your vehicle with its milage in perfect condition... usually higher than actual value... you should be happy w/ the amount offered
If you have 10K of extra prats on the car, you had better get them off. The insurance company is not required to pay anything beyond "market value" which is "similar" to the KBB. If you did not tell your agent prior to the accident about the "extra parts" your receipts may mean nothing. It all depends on your raport with the agent...I hope you are best friends
thank you guys , right now I'm thinking to cliam only the rims and ehaust and take off the rest of parts my self. according to kelly blue book, my car worth ~19k for retail value, plus 3k for rims and exhaust. that is about 23k. do you think they will give me 23k for my car?
thanks
thanks
First like someone just said keep calling your rep and make sure things get done.
As for the aftermarket parts many companies will not cover anything unless you have recipts and some just cover up to $1K, and you have to pay extra for the additional coverage.
I was just in an accident with a drunk and my insurance said they will not replace anything without recipts. So my last resort is going with my lawyer after the other dudes insurance and getting $$ for all my parts.
As for the rental it, I didnt get one because I don't have that coverage ( I do now because I changed insurance companies, 21st now) and I got a $1K Civic, to get around. Its been almost 2 months so it was worth it getting the civic to get around because the car is not yet fixed.
Now make sure you also go see a doctor. I thought I was fine but couple of days after the accident I could ont lift ****.
Hope this helps and good luck man.

what he said.
or get the parts out of your car asap.
too bad that was at my fault. I don't expect them to pay me for the extra pats I have on the car. now i just hope they will pay me enough money to cover the loan i owe
and sell rest of parts myself. I think that will be a better solution for me

same **** happened to me. Except mine was an L. I had rims, exhaust, coilovers, RS seats...the whole deal then i totaled it. My fault. I took off two rims and the sound system and 3 of the struts were blown. The gave me more than what the car was worth but only like 300 bucks out of like $3000 worth of mods. Sucks! Keep callin the rep or theyll screw you over with your mods. Just take off the ones you can and leave the rest. Then claim.
