HELP:More Clunking from the rear

so my problem is around 1500-2500 RPMs when i let off the gas really fast...a "knock knock knock" i guess its the driveshaft.

it wont happen if i slowly back off the gas, nor over 3000 RPMs

'99 RS rear stripped out...maybe im just hearing too much? Im mainly wondering if they all do that and i dont have ot worry? or not.

thanks a lot

Evil clunking sound. I had something like that. Like... when I am rolling and not on the gas... you hear this clunk, clunk, clunk... the faster you go... the more it happens. The slower you go, the less frequently it happens. Still not sure what it is.

ha thats not my sound but i do get the sound your talking about when i get done with a rally session, even when not on the gas and coasting, but it always goes away within a few miles.

My sound is a knock or tap that happens about 3-4 times over the course of 1 second with the frequency of this: tap....................tap.............tap....tap. .tap

the sounds gets quieter as it happens quicker (near the end) The initial tap is pretty loud, like metal tpping together. im guessing there is play in some drive driveshaft so i will have to shake them around tomorrow.

do you have some rino ramps? I would roll the rear of the car up on those and take a look around.

I'm willing to bet that you have put your car on jack stands and placed them under the tab that holds the rear diff outrigger mounts. When you do this it bends the plate up and when you down shift hard or let off the gas hard the rear diff mount twist/move enough to hit the plate. The stock bushing are very soft, first make the plate straight again then add a set of Whiteline Rear Diff bushings while you're at it, we stock them as do many other vendors. They're a nice simple, inexpensive upgrade. Hope this helps, I'm sure it will

Should just look under the car and whack the pipes to see if there's too much freeplay or something, will be pretty obvious. Those rubber exhaust hangers def degrade over time.

i've got a clunking sound too.... but that's the sound of my stock O2 sensor dangling around (since I put in a wideband)
