i thought offset was a linear formula from 50 all the way to 0 as in anything 50 or less will clear, anything with 30 or less will clear etc...you never hear "these brakes work with offsets 30-50...a 29 wont clear it. nor will a -1000 offset."

LOL i say it will clear the brembos

That illustration needs more Daytons or Player Wires for the cholo-approved offset wheels.

looks like the offset is weird or something, why is it sticking out of the wheel well? looks bad...

I like Kyle's representation.

offset isn't everything when it comes to caliper clearance....spoke design plays a huge roll in it as well

Yes, that wheel you pictured will clear brembos, but thats not something anyone would run

in realistic offsets, concave wheels with narrow widths have terrible caliper clearance

this is speaking from first hand experience.

Yes Kyle, you are wrong. In general the way wheels are designed/made, the more concave the spoke, the harder it is to clear large brakes, which is why most concaved wheels you see are actually rear wheels for RWD cars that run staggered setups. The concavity of the spokes means the inner part of the spoke near the hub comes much closer to the hub center itself, which sit well within the outer lip of the rim. This is where large brake calipers typically reside.

That is why you must run really low offset and sometimes spacers to get concaved rim designs to clear large brakes. So to get that look on a 7" wide rim, you really may need to run 0 or +5 offset, and potentially -5. However, that would be completely retarded and you better be putting those on a conversion van or perhaps a 87 corolla, in gold/chrome of course

If you actually handled a concaved rim and then a non-concaved rim and then looked at where brembos reside on the hub, this concept would become blantantly obvious
