Headlight Help

As everyone knows the headlights on the new WRX/STis are not very great.

I am looking to change mine and have read a good amount of conflicting information on the HID bulb/halogen projector/retrofit discussion. So I am looking for some people who have had success with getting a brighter white headlight than OEM with out the negatives.

I have seen many posts with people saying that HID Ballasts in the halogen projectors in the new WRX/STis are not blinding to oncoming traffic. Not sure if this is really the case. Doesn't make much sense.

What route do you guys recommend I take, retrofit, HID ballasts? I want to get it done correctly and not blind the on coming traffic as well...

These are what we call "liars".

Yeah, don't be like me! I ended up slapping in a HID kit in the OEM halogen projectors and it's definitely not the same as HID projectors. I'm getting that all sorted out now, but if you have the time and/or dough... get em retrofited!

If you're looking for a brighter output, consider putting some Sylvania ZXEs! I had those and the output was way better and mimicked HIDs pretty well.

you could bend the "squirrel finders" down on the stock headlights (DIY Request, Squirrel finder mod. - Page 2) however the are put there so you can see street signs and stuff. I bent those and replaced my lens with TSX-R's and the cutoff is pretty clean with no glare

I have some zxe bulbs in my dresser. I was all about them when I had my ford truck but with my subaru they just arent that bright.
I replaced them with a 55 watt hid kit.....oops......burned the projector on the drivers side. Lol. Now its discolored.

I took the kit out and decided to buy a 35watt morimoto kit.
Installed and meh.....

The ultimate decision.......sti fixtures with oem stuff. Or worse comes to worst......get a oem retrofit from trs for 400 bux.

Swapped mine out for the h9 bulbs. Doesn't cost much and it's a lot brighter than stock. Phillips bulbs like 8 bucks each

Morimoto's from TRS is the only way i would go. Never had an issue with the set I retrofitted into my camaro. Very sharp cutoff line and alot of light. If your going to do it, do it right.

I run them in the FXT, they burn out 2x as fast as regular bulbs, and you MUST use a ceramic plug (harness conversion), also they are not US DOT legal (too bright) and only a few places here in the US import them from Europe...

however, they are far, far brighter than anything you can get here, and not have to swap over to HID.

I left my OE hid alone but did upgrade the bulb for the drl/highbeam. I went with a HIR bulb. Google it to get more info. It works like a charm and light output is very good in high beam.

Looks like a hell of a lot of work to fab them in for the benefits. (and this from a guy who put a 7m-gte in a 4runner)

Doesn't look too bad honestly. They have a video up for 08-11 imprezas here's the video:

Watch "TRS Tips: Morimoto RetroQuik System For 06-13 Subaru Impreza" on YouTube
