HD radio in the bay area... worth it?
I have one in my work truck. You can definitely distinguish the difference between the regular and HD. The HD signal has less distance. Usually listen to live 105 hd1+2.
I like it overall, but the signal is not strong enough! It just goes from HD to SD and back OVER, and OVER again. I'd like it if the signal was strong. Over all it's kinda like the audio picks up in volume and the high end picks up.

i just cant stand how the spanish stations are crystal clear throughout the bay area and the ones i like hardly ever are crystal clear.
its especially noticeable at work on a dial tuning radio, where all the spanish stations are so strong, and the stations i like require a microscope to get it on the perfect micron of adjustment.

i say no. it just sounds like MP3's coming out of the radio. Very digital, and harsh.
i have a dual HD deck for sale if anyone is interested. $50!

I have it in the house with a GOOD antenna (on the roof), Sony XDR-F1HD . Thus, pretty much zero digital drop-outs.
The main channels are sorta useless. The secondary ones though, pretty good (NO commercials, and better music selection IMHO). Sound quality is notably better than regular radio, let alone XM/Sirius (which is pretty craptacular sound quality). Not as good though as a good CD mix or DVD-Audio.
That said, if I hadn't gotten the tuner for $50 (after rebate) I probably wouldn't have gone for it. After I got it, I found out this tuner is not only really good for HD-Radio but actually one of the better (analog) AM/FM tuners out right now even at many multiples of that price. Folks who are into DX'ing have been quite impressed with it.

If you are in a big metro city and in the city limits, it will be good as long as you are above ground. The selection isn't bad but it's like comparing OTA HDTV to Cable HDTV. One is free and the other you have to pay for. If it's free or a $10 premium, go for it, it's much clearer and the sub-stations seem to play less commercials.
