Handover complete
The handover of power to Iraq has happened two days early. Good move on their part as to not allow a possible offensive strike on the scheduled date. Now the opposition is fighting against the Iraqi Government with the help of Americans until it becomes stable enough to pull-out our forces.

As a result, we have the foundation for a stable government in the works. According to news, Saddam could stand in Iraqi court much sooner and it seems the UN is now willing to help along with Iraqi's security service.
An extremely close friend called me from Saddam's Palace during R&R who speaks fluent Arabic and he said everything's running smoothly. People seem happy and were anxious for this event to take place. There's the occasional opposition here and there in Fallujah and the outskirts of a few towns but everything else seems kosher. He had just finished a patrol of the area handing out M&M's and goodies to the children and was playing russian checkers with an elderly Iraqi man just prior to the conversation.
/me waits for Moore like responses along with pictures of Iraqi children with kites and frisbee's prior to OIF.

this about sums it up for me
Some Iraqis dismissed the event as meaningless as long as U.S. troops occupy the nation and some said the handover was a step in the right direction

As for handing the power over two days early that is prolly the smartest move I have seen by either side throughout this war, Much props to the man who thought of that one, he or she just saved many lives, or many false alarms for hightend security.
As for U.S. ever leaving Iraq, nah it aint gonna happen, however it will not be Occupying Iraq It will have a Military base there similar to the bases in other Arab countrys.
Now Im the kind of person who is sometimes(mostofthetime) ashamed to be an american (please lets not get politicla on this statement, I simply mean the US pisses me off with many of thier Decisions) but events like todays event almost want to bring a tear to my eye that we are actually going somewhere, no I just finished watching Far. 9/11 and am 100% guaranteed there is some sort of businees behind all of this, but I seem to not give a **** im just happy that the Iraqi Childeren have a future, just like many of us do.
God Bless America/God(Allah) Bless Iraq.
And Bush if you can read this it doesnt mean I like you. Dirtbag!

The reason for some of the Iraqi people to feel sketchy is quite simple...
Some of them fear supporting the wrong side which is understandable during these times. If the insurgency arises (unlikely) and proves successful they'll seek retribution against those who opposed them during the US occupation. As long as the majority of Iraqi people believe the insurgents are destined to fail, the new government will be a success in itself.

To be truthful, i know there's rumors of the NTC guys in Ft. Irwin having orders to go (rumors in the military = big hint to from the chain of command get your personal life in order without risking misson security). As far as other units i'm not too sure. I can imagine one of my old units may be preparing for another tour from the 82nd but that's rumor too. But the fact NTC is going is very strange in my opinion because they're a training force. Nonetheless, they're no strangers to desert survival and will do quite well.
I don't know the USA's plan is for occupancy but hopefully they'll slowly rotate smaller and smaller forces until the Iraqi government gets it's bells and whistles in order.
