Halp! Another TV thread..

OK, I kinda feel like I'm in the stone age as I still have a tube TV. 32" Sony Trinitron, awesome TV, close to 15 years old and now I'm looking to upgrade now that prices are pretty good.

Can some one recommend a 52" LCD that is good for streaming netflix and internet stuff? I've always been a Sony fan and I'd be getting a PS3 along with it since its a blueray player. How much would something like this go for? I know there are some TV experts in here, hoping you guys chime in!

If you really want a crisp look you would want the Refresh time to be 120hz or higher. Mainly LCDs go around 120 and some 240 but the 240 are way too much money IMO. Have you looked at the new LED TVs those are great. They are suposed to use less energy while having a outstanding look still. Since you are a Sony Fan I believe they only make a 55" at the 120hz standing but dont take my word for it. A lot of TVs today go around $1299.99 and above for something you are looking for though.

Did a little searching and I found what I wanted to post- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Electron...7&DCMP=rdr1430

Actually, just 120hz will do. Movies are pretty much all filmed at 24hz, and the reason to get 120 isn't the high refresh rate, it's that it's an even multiple of 24. If you go 60hz, it isn't an even multiple, and so the motion is uneven (but really I'm not good enough to notice) because it has to do a 3:2 pulldown to convert the frames to something that fits in 60 mhz.

Edit: just noticed you said you are getting a PS3. That might actually be able to make use of high refresh rates, but I've never owned one.

Oh yeah forgot about the multiples of 24. 120hz is plenty and you will notice a difference between a 60hz and 120hz. I did at least. its a alost more crisp especially with gaming but some people do end up getting almost like a motion sickness due to the clarity and motion during games/ or movies id go check out some and hopefully a blu ray is hooked up so you can see the difference.

I to recently just upgraded the old tube. I always thought that HD was a scam and that normal def was fine. I was wrong, now I hate having to watch anything less than HD just looks way grainy and gross. haha

Very happy to have HD.

I have a projector on a 100 inch screen. At that size, regular dvds are just unwatchable...

I picked up the 46" Sony at Best Buy last weekend and I'm very happy with it. I upgraded from a pretty good TV (Sony 40" LCD, 120HZ, and 100,000:1 contrast ration) to a very good TV. Even my wife says that she can see the difference.
