Hallway mistake today...
So I just got back from lunch and came up the back stairwell, turned the corner and saw one of my co-workers down the hall and made the mistake of making eye contact and saying "hi".
Problem is, they were WAY too far down the hallway to be greeting and we spent the next 10 seconds walking toward each other just staring... and smiling... like dumbasses.
I guess neither one of us wanted to look away and seem rude, but it just got uncomfortable. We aren't really friends or anything, just always say "hi" to each other...

Sorry, that's my useless thread of the day. Gimme a break, it's Friday.

It was a woman and she was kinda too far away to really make small talk with. I'm normally better with this sort of thing, but I just kinda froze and by the time I unfroze it was too late... hahhahha!!!

The thing I've noticed is that there are two types of 'nodders'... the UP nodders and the DOWN nodders. You know some people jerk their head up as if they are someone in my girlfriend's family (Filipino) pointing at something with their nose. Others jerk downwards, and usually their eyes follow quickly.
I'm more of an 'up' nodder when I nod.
Nodding is especially important where I work, as there is quite a diverse group of people working there, and many speak questionable english. Most speak well enough, but are still ashamed of their english and don't want to speak english unless absolutely necessary. With these people, the nod is an invaluable tool for someone where positive interaction with them is a good thing... (I'm an engineer and I write their procedures. I want them to follow my instructions and trust my judgement, even though I am not their superior... so some sort of friendly relationship is beneficial.)
