Might be too late but...
Being a former chemist I might be able to help...material phase transition.
Any easy way to get the buggering gum off the w-shield would be to buy a $2.99 can of compressed air. Wear thick leather type work gloves, and spray the can of air upside down on the gum. Empty as little as you need to freeze the gum using the compressed propellant from the can. Do this in the shade, and make sure your w-shield warms up gradually when done. It will be frozen also, but I don't know if the Subaru w-shields have an affinty to crack. Scrape the gum off, like a piece of ice with a flat edge, the glove, etc.
Hope that helps.
Sorry to hear about your encounter with parking lot a-holes. The best thing you can do is come up with a good defense imho. Anyways, a-holes usually commit random acts of stupidity upon others, thus qualifying them to be "a" hole. Now-a-days if you toss an idea in a crowd bout 90% chance you'll hit one of these types.
Sad.

they have these bottles of freezing things, i dont know what it's called, but you spray it on and it'll freeze it up.
we use it when cutting holes in a piece of glass.

get some ice and rub it against the material... gum will harden and then just chip it off or scrape it off...
i ended up using ice to make it cold and then scraping it off with a razor blade and then using a little bit of base cleaner (we use at work to clean snowboards and skiis before waxing) and the rest of it just wiped off. I just didn't want to touch it, ew gross.

wayy off topic sorry, but where do you work? snow season is coming up and i feel like rewarding myself with new gear, or at least giving my board a good waxing. i think the last time i waxed up was 2 season ago. =P wanna hook up a fellow i-club member? or at least recommend some good gear for the upcoming season? i'm a little late but welcome btw! and sorry bout the gum, glad to hear you got it off.

An application of Rain-X window treatment makes it harder for the usual stuff like bugs and dust to stick to the glass exterior. Not sure if it would make a difference cleaning gum off the glass, but it might help if there's a next time.

Damn haters. Ugh, you can try some Goo Gone to take it off. But seriously, if I caught someone doing that to my car, I'd hit them in the jaw with a claw hammer so they couldn't chew gun ever again.
