I am a Subaru guy through and through, but these are just engineering differences (when it comes to stuffing as much power as possible) that do not bode in our favor
And not everyone has the budget to Darton sleeve their block or buy a close-deck racing one...
Are you talking about the PDX, Easy Street, and "L" race cars? or actual customer cars?

I would be careful with that plan...As much as I hate to say it, Evo design is superior when it comes to plain ol' horsepower race on a stock block. Evos have closed-deck cast iron block that can easily handle tons of power on stock bottom end...Subaru employs open-deck style all-aluminum block where cylinder walls begin to flex and blow up in high horsepower situations...Basic engineering facts. GST tried matching Evo numbers on stock STi block, but let's just say results were not pretty (I saw the FUBAR-ed block in their shop myself)...It does not help that there were couple Evo X's during that day that broke 300 whp with just intake and exhaust...

With regards to our attempts to see what the stock STI block would handle your correct it was not happy on our shop car at 500whp and one of the rods had a disagreement with the block, the rod won!
