Gruppe-S question
since Gruppe-S has a dyno, do they do cam timing changes as well? how much does this sort of tuning cost?
Cam timing is usually done by installing a pre-fabricated cam from another shop. I think JUN and some other companies make WRX cams.
I doubt they would be able to machine you one to your specs. If they can, it would probably cost a fortune.
*edit* are you talking about AVCS or something?

what er are going to tell you is that if you want to make any power you should go with a 2.0 swap..
you could easily spend a ****load more to make a 1.8 or even a 2.5na motor ALMOST as powerful as a barely tuned ej20..
just save and do a swap.
