So far still no more grinding but the CEL is still on.
It could be a simple thing, like the gas cap is on wrong. Just make sure it doesn't start flashing. Yea I'll bring it with me on Sunday.

That's good you got a reader. They come in handy when you need them that's for sure. Hopefully the codes don't pop back up.

Was/Is that a ground wire that was broken? if it is... that is the whole problem. The whole car runs in a voltage scale. And when it can't get a good ground. All hell will break loose.
It will also cause starter issues.

Do you have a aftermarket flywheel? Those codes can get throw with a light weight flywheel.

Did you fix that broken wire from the battery?

Yes I do. When it bucked super hard I'm guessing something like that happened. It's the first time I've thrown this code and I've had the flywheel for like 90k. But I think you're dead right about the cause.

No I haven't fixed the wire. I'm going to try and get it up on my buddies lift asap and just fix a bunch of crap at once.

Diff fluid.
Oil change
New front and rear end links.. stupid Perrin's failed.
Rear diff bushing
and hopefully address my non working fog light.
fix the wife and remount the battery

Just knock it all out at once.

What year is your car again? You can tune the flywheel out for the most part but 06-08 WRXs were a pain. And having a missing ground might be enough to cause a mess. A good quick way to check this. Take a jumper cable to the negative side of the battery and hook the other end up to the starter. This bypassing the broken wire for a few. Then check to see if the problem goes away or is a tad bit better. It might be to late on the starter if the teeth or the gear is damaged. But that is how I quickly find ground problems when I do not have a meter handy.
