Thumbs up A GREAT turbo book

"Forced Induction Tuning" by A.G. Bell. A very thorough and practical tuning guide for turbocharged and supercharged engines. I thumbed through it for about half-an-hour last night and found a ton of info on diverter valves, boost control, intercoolers, mixture, engine internals, lubrication, turbo care and service, trans gearing, matching turbo to cc, and lots of WRX stuff.
Bell has authored another wonderful tuning book (normally aspirated) "Four Stroke Performance Tuning", an excellent book itself on modifying cylinder heads, cam timing info, engine internals, etc.

$39.95 from Haynes Publishing....check it out.

I have a book by one 'Corky' Bell called 'Maximum Boost: Designing, Installing, and Troubleshooting Turbocharging Systems.' I wonder if it's the same guy. Possible, since the one I have (read it cover to over 3 times... so far) is excellent. Just enough math and physics to let you be able to put them to use. No theory except as it directly applies. The only negative is that the book is kind of broad based- it's intended for all engines, from a D16 to a Chevy 502. Dilutes what's rely helpful fo us, but it's still worth every penny. About $25 shipped from Amazon.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the same guy. To be honest I've never read either books (prob order them in a couple minutes) and I've heard there is a lot of good information in them, I think they were written quite some time ago and may not reflect some of the newer technologies and/or schools of thought. I know I'm being real vague so what I'm talking about is that I remember reading a thread on downpipe design (I think it was bellmouth vs. divorced wastegate) where one of the turbo engineers at garrret seemed to vehemently disagree with Mr. Bell on downpipe design. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I'm gonna go check and see if I can find the damn thread and prove to yoy all that I haven't lost my marbles...

Maximum boost is recent enough that the examples of installation it uses are for an NSX and a Miata. It includes info on carbs, but that is definitely secondary to FI. And he makes it clear that FI is superior.

True, they didn't, but it's not like there have been any major advancements in technology since then. Direct injection is coming, but not yet. Anyways, it's copyrighted 1997.
