Great shop & mechanic in San Jose – WRX expert

I just had my transmission rebuilt... these guys know all the in and out of a Subaru and they have very very competitive prices and usually get your car done a lot faster than Gruppe-s (and much cheaper). They don't do performance... but they sure are great at basic wear and tear stuff (Transmission, Clutch, etc...)

I also got my timing belt and clutch done there....

Anyways I wanted to refer them to the I-Club community. Tell Thanh (Owner) that Quoc reffered you and he will take care of your subaru.

Shop info:
Sunrise 7
phone: 408-224-4995
4298 Senter Road
San Jose, CA 95111

That and the fact that Gruppe-S has never charged anyone anywhere near $1500 to rebuild a tranny. Last stock rebuild we did we charged the customer $1264.13 and he dropped it off Monday morning and collected it Tuesday night.

Sounds like they pulled your pants down and spanked your *** for an extra $300. Lets hope their work was upto standard.

FYI... Gruppe-s wanted $2k for my tranny re-build (not including fixing the infamous gas leak problem)... and I would have to wait until the parts came...
Not all tranny rebuilds are the same. If you just fix 1 gear, yes it would cost less. If you repalce a gear, mainshaft and syncros... it would cost more. Please do not compare apples to oranges.

Personally- I don't like Gruppe-s, Yes they have dirt cheap prices, but you have to wait for everything!!!

Who did you speak to at Gruppe-S?

Here's our list labor price for what you had done,

Tranny R&R $450
Tair down inspection and rebuild of trannsmission $500

Any replaced parts are additional to that, so for example if you had a bad shift fork and one bad synchro your tranny would have cost you $1100 out the door rebuilt. What parts exactly would you have to wait for? or to be clear what exactly was replaced in your transmission as yes we don't stock all the parts for the transmission (although we have most on the shelf) but then again neither does any shop we all order from the same dealer in the Bay Area that has everything instock and if not it takes a maximum of 3 days for any SOA part.

As for the infamous gas leak, sorry I have no idea what that is? are you referring to the codes thrown when someone installs the rear tank gasket incorrectly when doing a fuel pump swap??

Sorry that you don't like us not too sure why that is exactly, your comment on waiting are you referring to waiting for an install appointment or for parts?

I forgot to mention that the price I paid was for parts and Labor.

Parts replaced/Service
-Main Shaft
-2nd gear
-Syncro
-Gas leak

The gas leak is common problem for early WRX's. Only happens when the temperature gets really cold- you can totally smell the gas leak.

I don't hate Gruppe-s... I hate waiting 2-3 weeks for parts to come in.
