How do you use a laptop and drive at the same time? I guess there is some merit to this legislation. How about doing it to all drivers... I always see some idiot slowing traffic because he is on a cell phone.

The fine isn't enough IMO. Also, it says an officer can't pull someone over just for cell phone violation..ghey.

Cant see the link at the moment, but banning ipods? Why? How different is it from listening to a CD? They must mean having headphones in your ears, and not referring to the AUX jack that you can plug your ipod into, right? But that law has always been in effect! You can't listen to headphones while driving! Hell, I got a ticket a while back for listening to headphones on my BICYCLE! (CHP btw, GRRRRR)

This is a different law. The law you're thinking of requires use of a hands-free device unless it's an emergency and you're calling something like 911. And it's not January, I believe it's June.

What a load of crap - how can an officer tell if they are a teen from outside the car? "Oh I see you turned 20 last week so carry on" Most of the tools who have nearly slammed into me whilst on the phone were older from the looks of them.

I was a little confused by the i-pod thing too... Also, I swear the new law takes effect on 1/1/08 also but will have to check.

a lot of teens use their ipods in their car (hooked up with aux to their radio) and it's like texting on a cellphone when you scroll through your ipod to find the next song you want to play...i think that's what they are referring to.
