Got hit from the back.. what can i do now?

I just got hit from the back by a celica.
just a light bump, but my rear bumper has a big streak on it now.
i tried to use my finger nail to scratch it off, didn't work.
What should i tell my insurance company when they call me back tomorrow?
first time in an accident, absolutely have no clue how things are worked out.

any chance that i can get the whole rear bumper replaced?
if so, should i get a aftermarket one?
but how would the insurance pay for it if i have to buy the bumper myself?

ANY advice is welcome,
THanks

where were you when u got hit? majority of the time, when u get rear ended, it's not your fault.

just tell insurance that you got rear ended, and explain it to them. 2 years ago, i got rear ended ont he freeway, the other party's insurance cut me a check ~3 weeks after i filed the claim.

Well...first of all..you got the other persons information right? Next..I would base it off of your insurance...I mean..you got rear ended so it's 100% the other persons fault. So you can report it insurance...not sure if it'll increase your monthly/6month/anual cost...but if you report it to insurance..your deductable might be more than the repair itself..how bad is your car? You mentioned a black streak...from the celica? Or is it scratched paint off of your car? So what I'm getting at is...maybe ask some shops and get a quote on the repair...and just have the person in the celica pay for repairs.

Thanks for the quick reply.
are you sure that my insurance rate would go up? coz it's not my fault at all.
This is actually what happened.
I was actually at a signal, stopped at a red light.
It's the signal before entering 880 north near great mall.
and when the signal turns green, the celica from behind hit me.

I got her driver license number, her phone number, her address, and her insurance policy number.
"SHE" is a asian girl driver, and with her friend, another "she" in the car.
maybe they were busying talking, and just hit me.
my rear bumper is not damaged, there is no cracks or anything.
just like a black streak on it.

anyway i can get a new oem bumper from the dealer or something?
i don't wanna get it painted, coz the color wouldn't match that good.
my car is an Aspen White 02WRX

About the not your fault part, my sister got rear ended but I think the rates went up a little or atleast they note it in their records. I think any time the insurance company has to do something, they don't like it. They are there to make money really. It doesn't matter to them who's fault it is. It doesn't sound like your insurance, or theirs will shell out for a new bumper if it is just a small streak. I think you should just take care of this the straight way, get it fixed, it's no big deal. What color was the celica? If it looks like paint from the ceclica, im sure you can use something to clean it off. You can save yourself and the girl's a big headache by just following the instruction of your insurance and get the car fixed by repainting. If the bumper was deformed, I'd say get a new one, but for this, I don't know.

if its not your fault your insurance will still go up because you "can't avoid accidents." its weak but they get more money that way so they do it.

When the other party is at fault, your insurance rates do NOT go up.

As stated in my first post in this thread, i got rear-ended and the other person was at fault, 100%. When someone rear ends you, it's almost certain that person was following "too close". At least that's how insurance will see it as.

My rates did NOT go up after i filed the insurance claim when i got rear-ended on the freeway. I was the first car out of the 3 car accident. There were only light scratches on my vehicle's bumper that was caused by the accident, however insurance went right ahead and cut me a check for a brand new bumper skin + labor + paint which came out to be ~900 bucks.

AzN121184 is right. File a claim w/ your insurance. You'll have to pay the deductible but you'll most likely get the rear bumper cover replaced. They might also have to replace the bumper hanger. Then after everything is done, your insurance company will recover your money from the other company. You can wait for the other guys insurance but that takes forever and the other company will try to sheist you.

Your rates wont go up. Just call a good shop and get a quote for the repair, then give this quote to the girls insurance company. They should cut you a check for that amount and you can

1) get it fixed
2) keep the money and leave it

They'll likely just respray the whole bumper, take it to kreative kustoms in SJ

You didnt have to report it to your insurance at all I think. Just call HER insurance company. When I got hit in 04 my insurance didnt care at all, there was nothing for them to get involved in. My car was totaled and my rates didnt go up at all.

don't forget to tell the DMV too. They have to know even if it's not your car.

AzN121184, did you have to pay deductible?
i have farmers insurance, and the lady on the phone told me that i have to pay up to 500 deductible.

so what i should do is just call the other person's insurance and don't do a thing with my insurance company?
i am a little confused now, some of you said that it's better to claim with my insurance, and some of you said the other way.

Anybody with farmers got rear ended before?
what's the best way to do this?

Thanks

In my case, the deductible was not subtracted from the amount i got. I recieved the full payment, but then again, I'm with AAA, and i'm not sure if farmers have a different way to handle things.

If you filed a claim with just the other persons insurance, and you speak to them directly, chances are they will try to jip you because you're inexperienced and 'try' to put the blame on you. I would definitely call my own insurance up, and have my insurance agents speak with theirs. After all, you do pay them.

If the damage is more than $750. You have to file an SR-1 form. You can pick them up from the dmv or your insurance will mail them to you.
