Riddle me this... how the hell do they plan on having air flow over/through that intercooler?

I actually saw a similar set up at a local VW shop. They had ducting from underneath leading to the IC. Seemed to work, although they had some clearance issues with fuel lines and the damn thing caught on fire... thus it was in the shop.
This would be a perfect application for an a/w IC.

I saw the build-up of this a few months ago. These Vanagons were originally meant to be air cooled so it's relatively easy to flow air from the "air intakes" above and forward of the engine to cool it (Beetles have the air intake in the form of the little plastic grills on the sides of the car)

He said he was going to build it up to big numbers but in the end the tires smoked from the stock power so he was happy

Evidently this is a pretty popular swap. When I went to the subie wrecking yard in Rancho Cordova, they said that a lot of the WRX engines were being purchased by VW guys to stick in the vanagons. Evidently it matches up and they just bolt right in. At least that's what the guy told me.

Those vents are for fresh air in the cabbin, well not "fresh air" but the small amount of air that leaks through those is for keeping the rear window clear. Having said that, they dont work . Older style beetles do not have those vents, I think the vents started somewhere around 71.
