Got an Exhaust ticket....

I have a Helix catless dp and a HKS Carbon Ti Catback and I finally got an exhaust ticket. It was marked as correctable so I bought the silencer for it and I thought I could go to the police station and have them check it out and hopefully mark off the ticket. Well they tell me they don't have the necessary equipment and that I have to go the the REF and have them check it out. I am afraid now that if I go to the REF they are going to see that I have no cats. Anyone had this experience before?? If I go the REF for them to check my exhaust do they check anything else like smog??

yes, and they MAY stick a pipe snake up your exhaust to see if it "hits" anything.....ie. checking for cats. I have never seen this done before, but have heard that they do that sometimes. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, you have to put it back on. First thing they look at.

well if the ticket is strictly for a modified exhaust ticket (not a modfied smog equipment ticket) they shouldn't be checking for smog equipment. the ref has a mic/tripod setup to test the sound level at 2/3 the of the rev limit at a certain distance from the rear of the car.

the snake method wouldn't work for a lot of cars since many mufflers are baffled.

if its correctable you can have a regular cop off the street sign it off for you

if it's just a loud exhaust ticket, you can just have a cop sign it off. As long as it doesn't say state ref on the ticket then u wont need to see the state ref. GOodluck.

u might not pass the dB test with dp and catback on even with silencer. If it's vc 27151 they'll just test u for noise, but I wouldn't risk leaving the dp in because it might still be loud. You can still leave the hks catback w/silencer on though. I passed without silencer at 92.5 dB at 4500 rpms with the hks hi power.

I went to have a cop sign it off and they said they don't have the right equipment and stuck a sticker on the back of the ticket saying I have to go to the REF

Yes the ticket is strictly for a modified exahaust but I was afraid since I have to go to the ref to get it signed off they may see that I have no cats.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, that it might not pass with the silencer in it since I have no cats. I will proabaly just switch downpipes and just leave the exhaust on with the silencer it it.

How much louder is the HKS catback w/ the helix downpipe compared to the stock downpipe?
