Google knows where you are.... creepy.

And no, this isn't in a phone, this is through your interweb browser on your computer.

I'm more just curious how this works, rather than paranoid about it. Does it just look at your IP address and match that with ISP databases?

^Probably the latter.
And they can match it up to open WiFi networks, as they snag SSIDs with their Google StreetView cars.

The internet isn't a magical fairyland where data is just floating around for you to surf. Your computer has to know where it is, has to know how to dial out to the net, and has to tell other servers throughout the net where it is so that they can send you your information. your IP address can be linked to a physical location with a little help from your ISP.

If you are connected to any kind of network then that network can be used to determine your location. Doesn't matter if it is a phone, pc, ipad, or any other kind of device.

On top of that, you're complaining about an apple product which is using a google service. Between those two companies I bet they know as much about you and everything you have ever done on the internet as you do.

1) I'd never complain about an Apple product!
2) I'm not complaining about this feature, just thought it was an interesting feature that popped up (after clicking a button within moogle gaps.
3) The OS is irrelevant, as it is available when browsing on Windows too.

Maybe you already know but you can use Little Snitch on your mac to accept or deny connections to anything.. you can set rules for all apps or rules for 1 specific app.

Yes, that is precisely what I think it does.

Thanks for reading the actual question within the post.

Since most of you are brimming with such valuable and topical information, can use please help me with the following?
•I'm tired of the government tracking me via my convenience store purchases, what can I do about this?
•Which aluminum foil protects against the microwaves that are transmitting the brainwashing data?
•There is a van that always approaches me offering free candy, should I take it? He seems legit.
•I want to improve my reading comprehension and analytic skills. What books would you recommend for this, and what independent book stores carry these books (again, trying to keep the government from tracking me.)?

I think I remember reading an article about this not too long ago. I think this holds some credence.
