It's Max! That was a favorite book and movie when I was kid. Just watched it again a few weeks ago actually. I know he's unique, but why will it never be remade?
your close..
Vincent was the silver robot looked like a flying trash can with guns, the big red one is called "Maximilian"
The big deal was, it is the one, and ONLY movie ever made with the actual "Disney" credit and stamp in it, that a human dies in. In fact it was such a big deal, that once it was out of the theaters, they swore it would never go video, and it didn't tell DVD came out, and the only reason it did then, was they were sued by several others to force them to pull it from the vaults and sell it.
It was also as you noted first movie to use ACES system cameras, and the first movie ever by Disney to earn a PG rating, something back then is the same as a R rating now.

Oh, I do hate cats... I've had two cats though my house. One I married into. The other was for someone who just couldn't get enough. Worst animal ever, that persian. I'm glad the humane society was close to my house and open the night I got rid of it. I would have killed it. No joke.
