Good roads to drive in/near Fremont?

I was wondering if there are any windy roads devoid of cops to drive around/near Fremont? Also any good open spaces to use as a skidpad?

I usually drive calaveras since i work at Spring Valley GC which is right on that road. But some other good roads that i drive that are somewhat close to fremont are palameras, hamilton, and highway 9.

Also how long are you in fremont for? if i get my car back before you go back to school i will msg you and we can go driving.

From Fremont go through Niles Canyon road and make a left on Palomares, its a 2 lane each way road, nice and windy and ends up by 580 if you make a right turn at the very end of the road. Just keep in mind there is sometimes other people on the road, and if they are going the same way as you then youll have to wait 10min or so, just so they can get far enough ahead of you, I've gotten stuck behind slow people on there and it sux. Also try Calaveras out at the end of Niles Canyon road by Sunol. As far as skid pads, try Newark JR high as long as no one is in the lot and you don't stay long. Could also try going to the very end of Auto Mall by the dump and go in the last parking lot behind the end office building, plendy of room back there, but scope it out first cause I've seen the fuzz staked out there a few times. Also there is a slalom thingy about 1min from my house, PM me if you want to check it out, Gagan drove through it once when I showed him before. But anyways have fun and be safe, keep a good lookout.

Cant comment on the skid pad but, if you want a LONG route take 84 to Palomeres as said before. Then go down to Livermore (15 miles once you reach 580) and to Mines Rd. up and over Mt. Hamilton. I've never been all the way on calaveras rd. but the part closest to Sunol isn't the best road around.

yea mines road is awesome. The times ive been on it there hasn't been many cars. Also i agree that calaveras to sunol isn't a great road. I usually just go from the bottum of calaveras and instead of turning left to goto 84 and sunol i continue right and that part leads to the barreyesa exit.

Hey, I dug up this old thread with a search on skid pads... I was looking for a good site via google's satellite images, but that's slow... Does anyone know if this Auto Mall site is still good? I was out tonight on the 880-92 cloverleaf and got a couple of good leafs without traffic, but it's really not consistent or safe enough to push it, plus it's banked. I've borrowed a friend's G-tech Pro to do some before and after tests on my latest mods. The diameter of the leafs is good at about 200 ft (according to the satellite images).

I was also looking at the court by my daughters' swim school (Davenport Place) by Auto Mall & Grimmer as the court is pretty wide for trucks to turn around. It's probably only 100 ft diameter though.

Anyone have any other tips around here? What about Union City or Hayward, west side?

Jeff, I'll PM ya to learn more about the slalom!

I highly recommend going to an auto-x or track day, alot safer and a more controlled environment.

If you really must go check out this site but be very careful when you do go.

I switched over to Microsoft's Local maps and switched to their "Bird's Eye View" to better see the details of the parking lots. That last one off of Auto Mall does look good, though you probably have to loop around the trees:

Morrison Canyon Road, it's narrow as hell, and probably one of the sketchiest roads in the bay area, it's also fun as HELL!

Slow but very technical... Walnut Ave (major road in Fremont) turns into Morrison Canyon Road and ends at 680. It starts at Walnut and Mission Blvd, head east.

if you have respect for the MTNS you dont name roads or ask for them, just look at a map.

the reason there are cops patrolling these mtn roads are threads like this.

just some preventative maintenance for the activity we all love and want to keep loving for years to come. nothing personal. just dont want cops patrolling the mtns like they do in So Cal thats all, even tho it WILL happen
